    The Twins rallied last night and defeated the Orioles in what seemed to be a never-ending game that finished just before 11pm Central Time. Led by a balanced hit attack up and down the lineup, the Twins came back from a 4-1 deficit and the bullpen held strong to finish the game with a 6-4 victory. Joe Mauer raised his batting average to .333, trailing only Mike Trout of the Angels in the American League.

    Tonight, Twins fans will see Francisco Liriano on the mound, going against the Orioles' Tommy Hunter. Liriano has one, maybe two, more starts before the trade deadline and after his 15 strikeout affair last week, looks to continue building his trade value heading into July 31st. Like most of the Baltimore staff, Hunter has struggled this season, posted a well below average ERA for the club.

      I'm not an expert, but my understanding is, when the DH is being used, you usually put your weakest hitters in the 7 & 8 spots. The 9th spot is used for a better hitter, usually with a good onbase percentage.

      Uh...and that wouldn't be a problem if he was batting ninth? I'm not questioning that Butera is the weakest hitter in the lineup, but that's not going to change no matter what position he bats in.

      Anyway, you asked for a reason. I gave you a couple - it's common practice with the DH, and Carroll split's. Nobody's saying you have to accept the reasons - trash them if you like.

      The first reason is a good one, the second not so much. It's a meaningless split, especially given the size of the sample.

      Liriano is not helping his trade value by giving up 2 runs in the 1st. Is he focusing too much on striking people out?

      The Cult of Liriano scores games differently. It's currently 2-2. Liriano's Ks-Runs Scored Against. You're not properly valuing our stud frontliner.

      No, I don't think he is focusing on serving up K's. If I am correct, I believe that MLB has mandated a new rule for the Twins that they have to give up no less than 2 HRs a game. My thinking is he is trying to get the Home Runs out the way - that way he can focus on his game plan.
