Big day for Kyle and the Twins today... For the first time since early last August, Kyle Gibson is on the mound in a game. He started for the Twins GCL team. In the first inning, he got a ground out. The second batter walked, but he erased him on a ground-ball double play.

The Twins need Gibson more than anyone else in their farm system right now. It's good to hear he's pitching in game situations again.

Seriously. To me (TM Ron Coomer), he's THE big wild card for next year. He'll be something like 20 months out from TJ surgery by Opening Day, so he should be "all the way back" physically. But I don't know what to expect when he wasn't really fully developed even before the surgery. But if he could be where he was "supposed" to be, boy would that be a HUGE help.
EDIT: Just looked and according to wikipedia he had his surgery in early November last year. I had thought it was August for some reason. So if wiki is accurate, he'll only be about 17 months out from surgery. Still "should" be all the way back by then, or very close, if all went and goes well.Last edited by CDog; 07-10-2012 at 12:30 PM.

If all goes well, the Twins hope Gibson will go to the Arizona Fall League.
I believe his TJ Surgery was in mid-September.

Interesting to see if MN puts an innings limit on Gibson next yr..ala Washington.
They didnt on Liriano in 08 as he pitched 200 combined innings. He hasnt had arm prolems from it IMO as his troubles have been command

Yeah...weird. The wiki page says November 7 and references an article by Rhett Bollinger. I went to that article and it does, in fact, list that date as well. But that didn't seem right, and I have since found that the Star Tribune reported on September 8 that the surgery had been completed the day before. So hopefully this third try will get it right...Gibson will be a few days short of 19 months removed from surgery by Opening Day. Whew! Glad we got that settled!

How long will he pitch in the GCL? I'm not in a rush or anything just curious if you know more on the schedule he is on?

wonder how MN will play it w/Kyle over the last 2wks...Ryan has said he would like to get Gibson a ROC start.
If he pitches again FRI & WED (4 days rest) in Ft Myers, he could make the seasons final start for ROC on Labor Day Monday (Ft Myers done Sunday)
Probably what they will do if the weather holds out????

Listening to Josh Whetzel. FB is between 90 and 93 with movement. He's also saying that the slider is the best he's seen. Very sharp, late movement. And, he's thrown a few changeups as well. The first inning single was not hit hard. The line out was a very soft liner.
