Well he did say "lately." Not typically Gardenhire's style, but over the previous week or two, Carroll's OBP was falling sharply while Casilla's had been climbing. And with the comments by Carroll after Tuesday's game, it wouldn't surprise me if he had even brought up the idea because he didn't seem like he was feeling all that confident about himself at the plate recently.
