Would be nice if a pinch hitter was sitting on his arse in the dugout rather than Drew Butera.

But isn't it more important to have an emergency backstop in the extremely unlikely event both your catchers get hurt in the same game?

How do you expect him to whisper all the way from Rochester?

    That'll do.

Who else was muttering when he took the 2-0 fastball?

Wow, that was unexpected but fun.

Let's hope Burton can hold 'em down.

Yup, especially when I thought ball three was going to ring him up.

Took a lot of guts to lay off the 2-2 pitch just before.

I have less of a problem with Butera taking a bench spot than I do with the fact that the pitching staff is such crap that management feels the need to keep 13 pitchers on the active roster.

But really, who needs another bench bat when you can count on clutch hits from Casilla and Carroll?

    Valentine's reaction was priceless.

Is he still the Boston manager Monday night?

I'm watching the Boston broadcast. They were pretty fair on the 2-2 pitch to Mauer, Remy called it "close, but outside."

I guess I would say if you're gonna carry 13 pitchers, those bench spots become even more important, and giving one to Butera becomes even more hurtful.

Not like it matters, they're not in contention, but these kinds of things matter over 162 games.
