Wait! Is that a break in the clouds? A ray of light shines down, with the promise of better times to come.
Suddenly the world feels a little better.

That Mauer robbed HR just cost me a chance at the $1000 in my fantasy league.

I've said before that I'm not ready to anoint Glen Perkins the closer role, but since his last blown save he's run a nice sequence of 16 games with a 2.16 ERA; he's given up runs but not in close games where it cost anything. Closing out a one-run game against a top team today is a nice accomplishment. I'm very hopeful my earlier view that 2011 was a career year for him turns out wrong by several seasons' worth.

I didn't see any of the game. I did listen to portions while on the road. I have been impressed by Fien. He just about has to regress to the mean a bit, but I think he has just about won himself a bullpen spot next spring. Not as certain about De Vries, IMHO his performance has earned himself a major league contract and a chance to compete for a spot in '13.
My list for September callups: Carson and Dozier return. Slama and Vasquez get a look (one open spot + a Gray DFA), Arcia gets rewarded for his awesome season with a chance to impress. I suppose Walters will be brought back and Capps, too, if he can throw the ball straight and over 90 mph.
