  1. Twins Minor League Report (8/22): Playoff Races Heat Up

Because they clinched playoff berths in the first half, Cedar Rapids and Ft. Myers are trying to finish strong and preparing for the playoffs. However, Rochester and Elizabethton are still fighting for a spot in the playoffs as well. After tonightís game, the Red Wings are now a half-game behind Pawtucket. However, they are two games ahead of Norfolk for the Wild Card. On Thursday, the E-Twins won for the 12th time in 13 games (and 14th of their last 16). They are now just 1.5 games out of the lead ...

  2. The Century Club (100 RBI minor leaguers)

Last weekend, Dalton Hicks drove in two runs for the Ft. Myers Miracle and became the second minor leaguer this season to drive in 100 runs. The other? His teammate for the first three months of the season, Kernels outfielder Adam Walker. As of today, Walker leads minor league baseball with 106 RBI while Hicks is second at 103. The only other minor leaguer with 100 RBI this year is Astros slugging prospect George Springer, at 102.

While Walker has driven in each of his runs for the ...

  3. Twins Minor League Report (8/21): Seasons drawing to a close

On Monday night, Twins fans with Fox Sports North had the opportunity to watch the New Britain Rock Cats on television. In the game, fans were able to see good and bad, and most important, that even at the Double-A level, there is still a lot of development left, even for the best prospects. On Wednesday night, Twins fans saw a terrific pitcherís duel in Detroit between Kevin Correia and Anibal Sanchez. However, in the 7th inning, we saw that even the big leaguers make the types of mistakes you ...

  4. Twins Minor League Report (8/20): Dominant Debut for Stew(art)

The Twins top pick in this yearís draft made his Elizabethton debut on Tuesday night and was very impressive. I mean, if you happen to like strikeouts. He likely would have made this debut a couple of weeks earlier if not for his foot injury. He probably would have been promoted along with fellow 2013 pick Stephen Gonsalves. The two young pitchers join Elizabethtonís Big Three of Felix Jorge, Randy Rosario and Yorman Landa. Hein Robb has been pitching very well of late. And, thatís not even counting ...

On Monday, the Minnesota Twins and the New York Mets played the series finale of a series that started in April. The teams played a makeup game for a game that was snowed out. The Twins lost 6-1 and will now head to Detroit where they'll play the Tigers for the next three days.

Kyle Gibson made the start and went just 3.2 innings. He was charged with four runs on ten hits and two walks. Immediately following the game, he was demoted to Rochester.

  6. Twins Minor League Report (8/13): Twins Acquire Miguel Sulbaran

The Rochester Red Wings and the Cedar Rapids Kernels each had the day off on Tuesday. The Red Wings made the long trek back up north from Virginia. The Kernels didnít play, but they were still in the news. The Twins found out that they received LHP Miguel Sulbaran from the Dodgers as the Player to be Named Later in the Drew Butera trade. He has pitched for Great Lakes in the Midwest League throughout this year and will report to the Kernels. Sulbaran pitched in 23 games for Great Lakes, making 16 ...

  7. Not Such Minor Signings

Every year, every MLB team fills out their 40 man roster. As that is happening, they are also adding minor league free agents and offering them nothing more than an invitation to big league spring training. That is enough to be seen, to get an opportunity.

Generally speaking, news of these minor league signings is treated fairly ho-hum. However, the last few years, the Minnesota Twins have done a great job of adding veteran minor league talent. Usually, those players are guys who help ...

  8. Twins Minor League Report (8/11): Diamond Deals

Two starting pitchers that began the season in the Minnesota Twins starting rotation pitched very well in the minor leagues on Sunday. Thatís probably a big part of the story of the Twins 2013 season. Scott Diamond pitched one whale of a game for the Red Wings while Cole De Vries pitched five very good innings in Ft. Myers. The Twins traded Jamey Carroll on Sunday, and one of the candidates to replace him on the roster had a big game for the Red Wings as well. Miguel Sano continued to mash. There ...

  11. Twins Minor League Report (8/9): Friday Night Lights

The Twins had a full day of baseball on Friday, playing a day-night double header in Chicago against the White Sox. Fortunately, it was a day with a couple of exciting wins for Minnesota. Amazingly, each and every run scored by the Twins came off home runs, including several by players who spent a significant time in the Twins minor league system this year. Chris Colabello hit one in the first game. Chris Herrmann hit one in the second game. Last yearís minor league hitter of the year for the Twins, ...

  13. Is Pedro Florimon Meeting or Exceeding Expectations?

On Tuesday, we took a look at Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier and noted that his performance is certainly trending in the right direction, and that continued on Wednesday night in Kansas City. Today, weíll shift to the other side of the infield and try to determine whether Dozierís keystone combination partner Pedro Florimon is meeting or exceeding expectations.

If Iím being honest, my expectations for Mr. Florimon were not terribly high. In fact, when I posted my 2013 Twins ...

  14. Twins Minor League Report (8/6): Rock Cat Bats Bash

When youíve followed the Minnesota Twins farm system for as long as I have, you canít help but root for the underdog. Itís easy to be a fan of Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton and other top prospects, no question about that. But the fun part of following the farm system, for me at least, is that there is no one way to the big leagues. There are many different paths. Andrew Albers is the newest example of a guy who didnít exactly make a direct trip through the minors to the big leagues. What a story! He ...
