  1. Trending in the Right Direction

Anyone that looked at the Minnesota Twins roster coming out of spring training new that the team would not be competing with the Detroit Tigers in 2013. So, in my mind, 2013 would be all about development and improvement. Those two things would be the keys, the things I would be looking for, in 2013.

From a development standpoint, the Twins farm system continues to add talent, and the top ranked players are continuing to improve as they move up. From an improvement standpoint, there ...

  2. Twins on Twitter - Early August Edition

It's been about six weeks since the last time we updated the list of Minnesota Twins or minor league related players and personnel. If you're on Twitter, here is a list of nearly 170 people that you should consider following. Most of them are players, but we also have the Twitter accounts of the Twins front office personnel, minor league media and more.

Most important, I encourage you to let me know if anyone is missing from this list. I'd love for it to be complete, but I'm certain ...

  3. Twins Minor League Report (8/4): Licon Delivers Walk-Off Win for Kernels

Miguel Sano did not play for the third straight game for the Rock Cats due to a tight hamstring. Twins assistant GM announced that they expect 2013 top pick Kohl Stewart to pitch in about 8-10 days. On the other hand, Byron Buxton returned to the Ft. Myers lineup after missing about a week after losing a toe nail. Wilkin Ramirez played for New Britain. Darin Mastroianni, it was announced, will head to Rochester by Tuesday to continue his rehab. There, he will be joined by Josh Willingham. The Twins ...

  4. Twins Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Month - July

In recent days, we posted the choices for Minnesota Twins Minor League Starting Pitchers and Hitters for the month of July. Today, I present the top relief pitching performers for the month. There are a couple of guys at the top of this list that, if you argued the other should be #1, or vice versa, I wouldn’t have much of an argument. Two guys stand out on this list, but all five of them warrant recognition. Interestingly, the short-season teams played all of July and they are represented on this ...

  5. Twins Minor League Report (8/3): Rochester Wins in Dramatic Fashion

There are a lot of ways to win a ball game, but one of the most unlikely occurred in Rochester on Saturday night. A 29-year-old from Marshalltown, Iowa, who was drafted by the Minnesota Twins eleven years ago got to play hero, twice. Another minor league free agent signing helped lead the New Britain Rock Cats to a big victory. A great way to get a win happened with the Ft. Myers Miracle. If your pitcher throws a complete game shutout, there is a good chance your team will win.

    Of course, ...

  6. Twins Minor League Report (8/2): Friday Night Lights

Friday was a busy day in the Twins organization. Aside from the big league club needing 13 innings, there were seven minor league games on the day. Miguel Sano was out of the New Britain lineup again, but a source informed me that he had a tight hamstring. Also, Byron Buxton was out of the Ft. Myers lineup for the fifth straight game. He reportedly lost a toenail and is deemed day-to-day. Kohl Stewart was finally put on the GCL Twins 7-Day Disabled List with his cut foot. His teammate and fellow ...

  8. Get to Know: Andrew Albers

The Twins announced tonight that Andrew Albers will be called up tomorrow to the Minnesota Twins. It is something that he very much deserves. Who knows how it will go for him, but he has earned the opportunity.

Following the 2011 Twins minor league season, I named Andrew Albers the Minnesota Twins Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Year. Because of that, I wrote the below story about him that appeared in the 2012 Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook. Like so many other Twins this season, ...

  9. Twins Minor League Hitters of the Month - July

After looking at the top starting pitchers in the Minnesota Twins system in July, today we turn our attention to the hitters (and tomorrow, we’ll discuss the top relievers for the month).

Chris Colabello won this ‘award’ the last two months. He’s now with the Twins, so there is actually quite a bit of competition for this award for the first time in a couple of months. A couple of top prospects are near the top of the list.

July is always an interesting month for these ...

  10. Twins Minor League Report (8/1): Rock Cats Power Bats

On Thursday, the Twins organization made the catcher shuffle. Josmil Pinto was promoted to Rochester with Kyle Knudson moving up to New Britain and Jairo Rodriguez moving back up to Ft. Myers. We also learned that Wilkin Ramirez will continue his rehab in New Britain while Darin Mastroianni will stay in Ft. Myers and play some games with the Miracle.

Here more about that and other minor league topics on last night’s Twins Minor League Weekly. Travis was joined by Jim Crikket and they ...

  11. Twins Minor League Start Pitcher of the Month - July

The Trade Deadline has come and passed which means just one thing, it’s time to start announcing our Minnesota Twins Minor League Awards. Today, we’ll start with the Starting Pitchers for the month of July.

This month the numbers of the five players ranked are better than they were in June. Consider, Miracle righty Tyler Duffey went 3-0 with a 3.26 ERA and opponents batted just .202 off of him and he isn’t in the top 5. Matt Tomshaw made two starts and three long-relief appearances ...

  12. Twins Minor League Report (7/29): The Albers Show Continues

The July trade deadline has passed and the only player transaction on the day was the Rochester’s Drew Butera was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, I think we can expect that there will be a trickle-down effect of that move as Rochester will need another catcher (Josmil Pinto maybe?), and then New Britain will need another catcher (Kyle Knudson’s return, or Matt Koch maybe?). Then Ft. Myers will need a new catcher, so could Jairo Rodriguez’s affiliate tour take him back to the Miracle? ...

  13. Drew Butera Traded to the Dodgers

Several minutes after the 3:00 central time trade deadline, reports trickled in that the Minnesota Twins had traded catcher Drew Butera to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The reports indicate that the Twins will receive the ever-popular Player to be Named Later.

As of right now, that will mean that the Twins have opened up a spot on their 40 man roster. The Twins were unable to complete any other trades before the July 31 deadline passed. I have a feeling that the Twins will ...

  14. Which Twins are most likely to be traded?

There are Top 10 lists for everything; prospect lists, all-time greatest Philly cheese steaks. Today, I thought I’d work on a similar theme, but instead, I’m going to make it a Top 11 list. Below, I will post, in order, the Top 11 Minnesota Twins players that could be traded in the next 23 hours. Number 11 is the one I would say is least likely (as of right now), and the Number 1 player is the one I would assume is most likely to be traded.

Of course, guessing what will happen is a ...
