  1. Tuesday Minor League Scoreboard

Brett Andersen made his first start in just over a year since he had Tommy John surgery, and the lefty was back in fine form. He gave up just one run on four hits and no walks in seven innings. Sean Doolittle pitched a perfect eighth. Then former Twins reliever Grant Balfour recorded his 12th save with a perfect ninth. In other words, the Twins offense just did not show up. Trevor Plouffe was again 0-4 and is now 2-29 in eight games since his return from the DL. Jamey Carroll was 0-3, and he now ...
  2. Twins Minor League Leader Board - Pitchers

Earlier today, I posted the Twins Minor League Leader Board for the hitters. Now comes the leader board among Twins minor league pitchers. Pitchers are more difficult to compare against each other. Comparing starting pitchers with relievers is really difficult. So, what I've done is set two limits for many of these categories. I used a 40 inning limit, and then I used an 80 innings limit. There have been a couple of starters who have pitched well and consistently in the minors this year. There have ...
  3. Twins Minor League Awards - July

As I was beginning my trek to Beloit last week, I realized that it was already into August. I have no idea where the entire month of July went, but it was already time to present awards for the minor league hitter, starting pitcher and relief pitcher of the month. To keep things brief, this is a little late, so Iím going to consolidate the reports. Along with the three ďwinners,Ē Iíll give a top five as well as post some honorable mentions, if appropriate.

I apologize for the delay, ...
  4. Notes from Day 3 in Beloit

The weather has certainly been a factor in Beloit the first three days of this trip. The first two days, it was so hot. Temperatures hovered in the mid-90s and humidity was quite high. On Saturday, however, the weather was a little different and that crazy humidity finally burst into some impressive thunderstorms. Would there be baseball, or would we have to make a tough decision about whether to stay for a doubleheader on Sunday? (Note- we had already decided we would!)

    Saturday morning ...
  5. Monday Night in the Minors

The Twins got a very nice 7-6 win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night. But the offense and defense of Denard Span and some great ninth inning work from the bottom of the order gave the Twins a walk-off win. Danny Valencia led off the ninth with a line drive single. Alexi Casilla pinch ran for him. Brian Dozier laid down a perfect bunt that AJ Pierzynski threw into right field, allowing both runners to advance. Jamey Carroll stepped up and flew out to right field, deep enough for Casilla to ...
  6. Thursday Minor League Rundown

The Twins lost 4-3 to Baltimore to split a series with the Orioles. Tonight, they start a weekend series in Kansas City against the Royals. The Territory Train is packed full and heading to KC. Iím certain many other Twins fans will be following the team, watching some baseball, visiting the Negro League Baseball Museum and likely eating some really good BBQ. Yes, Iím jealous and need to get down to KC some day!

Anyway, it was an interesting night in the Twins farm system. Rochester ...
  7. Friday Night Minor League Lights

Francisco Liriano did a tremendous job on Friday night of building his trade value. The lefty gave up just one run in 6.2 innings against baseballís best offense. Jared Burton got four outs quickly. The Twins got enough offense, as well as some help from the Rangers defense, to put up five runs. Joe Mauer drove in two runs, and Justin Morneau homered. The two teams play again on Saturday as Sam Deduno makes his first Twins start.
With that, here is a look at the Twins minor league scores ...
  8. Territory Train Day 1 Log (Snappers at Quad Cities)

Worried about rush hour traffic, I left my sisterís place early, just to make sure I was in Woodbury by 8:45. Traffic wasnít bad, so I was there before 8. By 8:15 or so, Scott (the man behind Territory Train) had arrived, and the bus was there by 8:30. I was thrilled that we were 1.) on a Lorenz Bus, and 2.) that our bus driver would again be Ed (the same driver from when I had gone on a Twins Train trip to Detroit two years earlier). There was even more good news, the bus had wireless internet ...
  9. Twins Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month - May

Itís hard to believe that the month of May is already complete, and with it, it is time to announce the choices for Twins minor league hitter, starting pitcher and relief pitcher of the month. This month, we are going to start with the starting pitching. There were some very solid starting pitchers during the month of May. Instead of making four starts, as they did in April, they had to be good for five or six starts in May.

Below, you will find my rankings of the Top 6 starting pitchers ...
  10. Minnesota Twins Top 50 Prospects (Part 3: 21-30)

Today, we continue our trek through my Top 50 Twins Prospects list by looking at my choices for prospects 21 through 30. Yesterday we looked at prospects 31-40, and the day before I presented prospects 41 through 50. I think that this 21-30 group is interesting. You still have some young players who have great potential but havenít quite reached it... yet. You have a couple of players who have been ranked quite a bit higher who, for whatever reason, have fallen and are looking to move back up. ...
  11. Sunday Afternoon Game Notes

The Twins fell behind early and were not able to catch up despite two solo home runs by catcher Ryan Doumit. That was pretty much it for the Twins offense . Simply, there were very few positives to be found in the Twinsí 1-5 road trip to the west coast. (To be fair, even in good years the Twins havenít done well on west coast trips.) The loss drops the Twins to 6-20 on the season. There have been a few changes this week, and I canít help but feel that there are more to come.

    On Monday, ...
  12. Twins Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month - April

Last night, I posted my choice for the Twins minor league relief pitcher of the month, Deolis Guerra. I also mentioned five other bullpen guys that deserved recognition for their strong starts. This morning, Iíll post my choice for the Twins minor league start pitcher for April. There were some pretty good options, but in the end, the choice was pretty easy. As always, I welcome feedback in the Comments if you have any thoughts, questions, or want to Ďvoteí for your choice.

    From a ...
  13. Wednesday Night Twins Minor League Game Notes

The Twins and Red Sox are battling in a suddenly-close game in the late innings of the final game of what has been an immensely frustrating series for the Twins and their fans. Which is another good reason to follow the Twins minor league games. Thereís always plenty of positive to be taken from the games, even if three of the four Twins affiliates lost.

Here is a look at the Twins minor league scores and highlights from Wednesday:

    ROCHESTER 5, SYRACUSE 10

  14. Friday Night Game Notes (Twins Win and Sano Shines!)

The Twins improved to 5-9 with a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Denard Span, Jamey Carroll and Joe Mauer each had two hits, but it was again Josh Willingham who played hero in this game. With the Twins down 4-2 in the 7th, the bases were loaded with two outs and Willingham came to the plate. With two strikes, Willingham drilled a opposite-field doubles to drive in three and give the Twins the lead. It extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Matt Maloney, Jared Burton, Brian ...
