    You must be Youking !

adding Youkilis means we are going to give up on Plouffe. That is not the way to make long term improvements to the Twins.

What if Plouffe had not hurt his hand ? What kind of hitter would he be ? That is what the Twins must find out. You propose to spend a lot of money on an iffy proposition, without giving Plouffe the chance to prove his value. Are you related to Bill Smith ?

Any chance this is was a reaction to Target Field, to try to pull the ball and maybe more power?

If he is going to keep stranding runners, they had better get someone behind the dish who can actually catch those pitches.

If he needs a rest....go for it. But it would be nice if he is on the field in someway during the homestands.

This is an excellent article. It seems like this has been such a common, recurring question since the 90s. I have no answer, but I tend to think that the answer is not currently on the roster.

If Escobar is as good with his glove as I have heard, I might just be willing to completely sacrifice offense to watch a good defender every day. Is that what it has come to?

... it is obvious that the players cannot be counted on to do this kind of determination. They have machismo and often millions at stake.

I get the machismo part, but aren't their contracts guaranteed? Surely there's no financial hit taken by going on the DL, is there?

Rockies acquired LHP Jonathan Sanchez from the Royals for RHP Jeremy Guthrie.

It's a swap of bad contracts that makes sense for both sides. The Rockies receive $1.1 million of salary relief, while the Royals might actually be upgrading their sorry rotation with the addition of Guthrie. It's not clear if the Rockies plan to put Sanchez in the rotation or in long relief.

Joe Christensen reported today that Blackburn's turn around in the minors (and recall to the show) is from reviewing tape from '09. I wonder if he meant reading this article? http://www.startribune.com/sports/163042356.html

Great write-up - I don't see a downside for the Twins picking him up - Sounds like a "typical" TR deal -

Agreed - Mitch Williams was an idiot when he played, and not much has changed.

Only one I can't listen to more is Tim McCarver. - (Did that sentence make sense?? If it did, then you would do very well as an interpreter in today's world!)

Thanks, Parker. Excellent analysis as usual.

Best line in a scouting report yet: "[hits the ball] a distance reserved for those wearing big boy pants". I am picturing a future where grizzled scouts say "He's got big boy pants power..." and Brad Pitt growls at them from the GM chair.

Great write up on Buxton--shots of him eye to eye with Mauer and Morneau breed confidence (bordering on foolish optimism) and even if he turns into Matt Kemp-lite he's a worthwhile investment for the Twins.

If only he could get through to Valencia and Hicks (and tell Hicks to stop trying to be a switch-hitter), the Twins could have two impact players up in the bigs right now so we wouldn't have to watch Trever Plouffe out in the field (only said that because I was at a game last year where he made 2 horrible throwing errors 2 innings in a row.)

It's nice to see Revere's BA sitting in the 0.290s after today's game. Hopefully he can build on that and work on drawing more BBs.

Boston continued to throw Valencia fastballs away, and Valencia tried to hit a homerun on every one of those pitches, most of them he of course hit a baby pop fly, or sent a tailor made double play ball to the shortstop. Nothing is going to be changed with Valencia, he is uncoachable, and will continue to try and hit the ball over the fence like the selfish player he is.

Swarzak is not very good. His minor league numbers since 2007 (!) show that pretty clearly. He has no business being a major league starter. He's the Luke Hughes of the pitching staff . . .

Nice article! As you mentioned, I sure hope the Twins' staff are taking a look at his mechanics. We need him firing on all cylinders!

Yes, this means something new for the Twins. IF Morneau is ok, and now the Twins have a RH pull hitter with power, this means more than mid-70s wins. The OBP is going to be there. If the slugging is as well, nay-saying "fans" are going to be in for a shock.
