  2. Twins Minor League Report (7/18): Rogers Pitches Gem

The All Star breaks are all over, and there was a full schedule in the Twins minor league system on Thursday. A couple of old college teammates helped the Kernels provide most of the organization’s offense on the day. A couple of now-former Twins were on the mound. However, on this day, Taylor Rogers stole the show with one of the best pitching performances by a Twins pitcher this season. See below for more.

Also last night, I was a guest on Twins Minor League Weekly podcast and answered ...
  3. 20 Twins Trades: 2 Trades for 1 in 2001

2001 was the first season in what would become a nearly decade-long turnaround of the Twins' franchise. For the first time in ages, the Twins were in a position to buy at the trade deadline, rather than sell. This exciting season was about to get more exciting! Two separate trades signified that the Twins were going to finally do ...
  4. The Setting Sun of Morneau

It sure seems like the MLB media and a portion of the Twins Community thinks Justin Morneau is on his way out of Minnesota VIA trade. I will have to see it to believe it, but I have resigned myself to this scenario becoming a definite possibility.

I want to cut to the chase. Morneau certainly did not live up to his potential. 7 years ago I expected that his numbers and accomplishments would be much further along than they are now. I do not say this to be negative, I do not say this ...
  5. Handing Out Twins First Half Awards

At the beginning of the season, I devoted an entire week to make predictions about the upcoming MLB season. These predictions can be fun especially with all of the surprises that surround the game of baseball. I had the Toronto Blue Jays winning the AL East... oops. There are going to be a few swings and misses.

With the All-Star Game over and done with, let's take a look back at the first half of the season and see who's in line for each of NoDak Twins Fan's end of the season awards. ...

    Rudy May (1944)
    Torii Hunter (1975)
    Glenn Williams (1977)

Left-hander Rudolph May was in the Twins’ organization for his first year of professional baseball. He was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, went to high school in Oakland, California, and signed with the Twins as a free agent in 1962. He played for Bismarck-Mandan in the Northern League, going 11-11, 4.29. The White Sox chose him in the first-year player draft but ...
  7. Lucas Shares his Passion for pitching

Two weeks ago, my brother and I made the trek south to Cedar Rapids to watch a couple of Kernels games. It was fun to catch up with several people there and also talk with a few people from the Twin Cities area who had the same idea.

Following batting practice one day, I had the chance to sit down in the Kernels dugout with their pitching coach Gary Lucas to talk a little about some of his and the Twins philosophies on pitching and pitcher development at the Low-A level. Watching him ...
  8. Twins Minor League Report (7/17): Rosario Sizzles

Much like the Major League squads, the best players at the Triple-A level gathered for their All-Star Game on Wednesday evening. The Rochester Red Wings had two representatives, Chris Colabello and Andrew Albers, and they both played roles in different parts of the game.

Colabello was the starting first baseman for the International League team and he batted in the third spot in the order. After not hitting any home runs in the Triple-A Home Run Derby, Colabello looked to make some ...
  9. A trade for Perkins, that I would take...

What do you think? One thing I wouldnt do is take pitching unless there was a guy that blew me away...(twins have invested heavily in pitching in drafts and trades, now build the rest of the team
  10. A look at Joe Nathan's Hall of Fame chances

Last night we saw the obvious future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera be the set-up man for former Twins closer and current Texas Ranger Joe Nathan. Now Rivera was in the game in the eighth inning to secure him appearing in the game, but is it possible that we saw a one-two punch of future Hall of Famers?

It's tough to break into the Hall being a relief pitcher, but Nathan might just have right amount of saves at the end of his career to punch a ticket to Cooperstown. Nathan currently sits ...
  11. What If?

I suppose I should start by admitting that I have a split personality – by “day” I am an ardent Twins fan, rooting for my team even when they do something stupid (which is all too often these days, but that’s another topic). At “night,” however, another side of me surfaces and I become one who is passionate about English football – and by football, I mean real football. Not the thing that millions of fans follow in this country that involves a prolate spheroid of artificial animal hide, but a game ...
  12. Twins Birthdays--July 17

For the second consecutive day, there are no players with connections to the Minnesota Twins who were born on this day.
  13. Casey Fien has been a find for the Twins

ID:	4824The Minnesota Twins have excelled in certain areas of their team-building. While they may be light years behind in developing starting pitchers, their ability to identify inexpensive bullpen talent has been impressive when it comes to the arms race.

Casey Fien is one such find. For less than a million in salary the 29-year-old right-hander has provided the team with over $7 million in production value, according to Fangraphs.com’s valuation. That is a significant ...
  14. Twins Minor League Report (7/16): Transactions Galore

Typically, the full season minor league affiliates do not have games scheduled for the night of the All Star game. Earlier in the day, the Gulf Coast League Twins played a game. However, the New Britain Rock Cats played the middle game of a three-game series at Harrisburg.

The story of the day was that there were a lot of minor league transactions throughout the system, and frankly, several more must be in the works. Here is what we have as this is written:
