  1. Wille’s Way: Starting At Catcher For Your Minnesota Twins….Matt Wieters?

When the Minnesota Twins announced earlier this week that Joe Mauer would be making the permanent shift from catcher to first base, few blinked an eye. Twins’ fans deep down—no matter how much we tried to fight it—knew that one day this was going to happen. Mauer’s end-of-the-year injury certainly didn’t help his odds of remaining at catcher for the remainder of his career and at the end of the day, Mauer is simply too valuable for this team to be sitting on the disabled list; thus, the move to ...
  2. One Starting Pitcher the Twins should target in a trade

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch

A week ago, I looked at the available starting pitchers who are free agents and I distilled the long list to three names who the Twins should target this off-season. The premise is that other than Alex Meyer and maybe Kyle Gibson, the Twins do not have any "sure bets" for the top of their rotation for next season and the near future that will coincide with the coming of age of uber prospects Miguel Sano and Byron ...

ID:	6018I'm not a doctor. I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Nonetheless, it's been clear to me for some time that Joe Mauer was destined for a permanent move away from catcher after concussion issues cost him a quarter of his 2013 season. There was simply no way that continuing to expose the organization's most valuable asset to the heightened risk of head trauma behind the plate was going to be palatable, no matter how well his offseason recovery went. ...

ID:	6012The Twins surprised everyone yesterday but announcing that Joe Mauer has made the decision to relocate to first base after spending his career as one of the game’s best two-way catchers.

Comments from Twins general manager Terry Ryan in October made it clear that the team was not totally anticipating Mauer’s move as they entered the planning season for 2014. In his address to the media yesterday, Mauer mentioned that there were occasions that he would take ...

  8. Twins Top 65 Prospects (31-40)

This continues my prospect countdown. This is quite an interesting mix of players, for Minier to D. Romero, and the inclusion of Nate Roberts and Adrian Salcedo.

    40. Amaurys Minier, 3B, SH, DOB: 1/30/96
    2013 GCL: 119 PA, .214/.252/.455 (.707), 5 doubles, 2 triples, 6 homers, 6 walks, 29 strikeouts, 1 stolen base, 1 time caught stealing

There should be a fair amount of excitement surrounding Minier as he put up these numbers in the GCL before his 18th birthday. ...
  9. Joe Mauer Moves, Cory Provus Speaks

Episode 59 of the Twins baseball podcast, Talk To Contact (@TalkToContact), is now available for download via iTunes or by clicking here.
This week's episode is a bit lonely as Eric is stuck in the backwoods of Minnesota deer hunting and dealing with a septic situation. Paul and Cody go it alone and discuss the Twins news, most notably the announcement that Twins uber-star Joe Mauer will transition to ...
  10. Mauer's Move: The Twins & It's Impact Concerning The Hall of Fame

And just when you think you may never read another news story about a professional athlete that isn't narcissistic in nature, there’s Joe Mauer's move to first base. In a word: selfless.

Some might argue it's not that selfless, as it's in the best interest of his health. Which it could be, but first basemen aren’t any more immune to concussions than any other position as his close friend, Justin Morneau, a first baseman, experience a career changed ...

  11. The Ripple Effect of Mauer's Move to First

The Twins made it official on Monday... Joe Mauer's days behind the plate are over.

After consulting with doctors at Mayo Clinic, it was felt that Mauer needed to avoid the chance of re-injuring himself at the roughest position on the baseball field. Even though Mauer is now symptom free and able to go about his regular offseason routine, the club felt this was in the best interest of the team and their star player.

The move away from catcher has been something Mauer ...

  13. Wille's Way: 2014 Minnesota Twins Offseason Blueprint

Well, it has been roughly two months since I last blogged and since then, the baseball season has come to a close and the Minnesota Twins still haven’t found their way out of the abyss of mediocrity. I have personally made the transition away from blogging at RantSports.com and have instead decided to blog solely on TwinsDaily. Many factors have gone into my decision; but at the end of the day, this is the best fit for my current

  14. The Promise of Players: A Blueprint to Win the Game of Bases and Balls

'Tis the season for the best baseball minds (and me) in the Twinsblogosphere to offer their takes on what the local 9 ought to do to improve their roster. Using the Twins Daily Offseason Handbook as a guide, you take your best crack at improving the Twins. Many bloggers dig deep for undervalued gems, or carefully consider how to balance free agency with player development.

I choose an irrelevant theme and offer totally implausible pipe-dreams for about 1000 words.
