Welcome to the unofficial midpoint of the 2014 Twins season. After teasing fans for different portions of the first half, the Twins find themselves in a familiar position at the break, last place in the AL Central. The Twins enter the break six games under .500 and 10.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers for the top spot in the division.
Even though the team's record might not show it, there have been some positive things happening for the Twins this year. Kurt Suzuki and Phil Hughes are

On the special holiday episode of The No Juice Podcast, Parker Hageman and Dan Anderson bring in guest Aaron Gleeman to discuss how to make it in America as a blogger.
In addition to having Aaron Gleeman discuss his Linkedin profile, you will hear tips on why you should avoid Minneapolis strip clubs if you are a Kansas City Royals pitcher, which baseball analytics websites to use for your ball guy analysis, a comparison between Joe Mauer and
So I've been more or less completely consumed with the World Cup this month. Watching every match I can, reading interviews, reports, reviewing highlights, and writing like a maniac. But I still think of baseball (and can prove it with stuff on another blog), perhaps never more clearly than when I was watching a World Cup match with some friends last Thursday.
We needed a point against Germany, or some good fortune in another match. Being Minnesota sports fans, we fully anticipated
Some rather unexpected news moved across the Internet on Thursday as we heard Jorge Polanco, he of High-A ball experience, would replace Yohan Pino on the 25-man roster in time for Thursday's game in Anaheim.
Manager Ron Gardenhire had been vocal about his desire to add another bench player at the expense of the pitching staff, but not many would have predicted the 20-year-old from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, would be the one to get the call to The Show.
Puckettsburgh, Twins Territory--
The great and honorable Chairman Joseph Mauer has reclaimed his honorable place as the most powerful and dominant hitter of all Twins Territory. Mauer, the bringer of light, basher of doubles, vanquisher of enemies and foe of all obviously-over-hyped-home-runs-because-come-on-it's-more-impressive-to-just-have-a-high-on-base-percentage-anyway, has reminded all loyal subjects of his greatness through repeated
Next month's All-Star Game is fast approaching and Target Field will serve as the center of the baseball universe. The starting rosters for the National League and the American League will be announced during the weekend of July 5th-6th and it doesn't seem likely for the Twins to have a starter elected by the fans.
This leaves some question as to who should represent the hometown team in Minnesota's first Mid-Summer Classic since 1985.Joe Mauer has been named MLB's All-Star Ambassador
This Joe Mauer vitriol has gotten out of hand.
Fans and media members alike are taking shots at him over his lack of production at the conclusion of just the season's second month of play. Sure, his power outage, run production and shortage of key hits has been the source of much consternation -- particularly in the last stretch when the team has dropped six of their last seven games.
Did you hear that the Twin Cities will have a new Joe Mauer-themed
I was thinking today about how Mauer is so stoic. He reminds me of Sam Jacobson. Another repressed Minnesota boy. If they Mauer could light a fire under himself! Show some emotion. Get mad. Line out and shout. Curse out a ****ing umpire for ringing him up. Something to show us fans that he cares.
But of he is who is he is. He can't change that. We'll never see that kind of fire in him. Sad, but true. Why wouldn't I be used to this by now.

The Minnesota Twins come into 2014 off a third straight season of over 90 losses. The last time the Twins went through a rough stretch like this was at the end of the 90’s when they had 4 straight seasons of over 90 losses and that was actually part of 8 consecutive seasons of finishing under .500 from 1993 to 2000 for our Minnesota Twins.
When a franchise goes through bad stretches like that, they better have good scouting

ESPN's Sweetspot blog posted an interesting entry earlier today looking at the top teams in relation to their "core five" players. They took the top five men from each roster and compiled their Baseball Reference WAR totals to come up with a top ten list. Obviously the better players you have, the more likely you are to be a very good team. Out of their top ten list, eight of the teams qualified for the postseason last year.
There's no surprise that Minnesota didn't crack the
Some of the buzz of the Twitter world yesterday was surrounding the Twins and who should be the lead-off hitter when the team heads north from spring training. Ron Gardenhire would like one of the center field candidates to run away with thelead-off job but he had a surprise name as a back-up plan. With the ways things are starting to take shape, the team might have to get crafty with men near the top of the order.
Here is a look at some of the candidates for the lead-off spot. Some
