  1. Sunday Game Notes

    by , 06-25-2012 at 10:50 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins had arguably their most exciting game of the season. In many ways, it was the 2012 positives that got it done. Trevor Plouffe hit a home run. Scott Diamond pitched great. And then the big blast off the bat of Josh Willingham that proved to be the game-winner. Of course, you can add to that an incredible plate appearance by Joe Mauer off of flame-throwing Aroldis Chapman to set up the Willingham homer. Jared Burton made it interesting but pitched out of a jam for the save. And now the ...
  2. Monday Night in the Minors (including Kyle Gibson Update)

    by , 06-05-2012 at 10:03 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
As important as Monday was to the Twins organization because of the draft, there was another reason it was important. Kyle Gibson threw off of a mound for the first time since having Tommy John surgery. In a text message, he said that it "went really good!" He added that his "arm felt great!" For Gibson, it was another milestone passed on the way to getting back into some games later this summer!

Ben Revere and Jamey Carroll each had three hits. Josh Willingham hit his 11th homer. Justin ...
  3. Saturday in the Park

    by , 05-26-2012 at 11:37 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins lost on Saturday afternoon to Max Scherzer and the Detroit Tigers. Justin Morneau’s ninth home run tied the game at two in the second inning. Unfortunately, in the top of the 5th, Carl Pavano gave up six straight hits (5 singles and a double) and gave up four runs. Denard Span cut the lead to 6-3 with his first home run of the season, but that was it. The Twins were able to get no closer and lost 6-3.

Span had a double and the home run. Ben Revere went 3-4 in the game. However, ...
  4. Minnesota Twins Top 50 Prospects (Part 2: 31-40)

    by , 05-23-2012 at 10:42 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Yesterday, we looked at my choices for Twins prospects 41-50. Today, we continue to look at our series on the Twins Top 50 prospects by seeing who I’ve got listed in placed 31 through 40. Like yesterday, you will see a couple of relievers that have a chance to be back-of-the-bullpen types if things work out. There are a couple of college-drafted pitchers who are pitching quite well, and there are some pitchers who were signed young who have a lot of potential. There are just two hitters in this ...

Drew Butera is hitting .350 and the Twins just swept the Tigers!! All is good in Twins Territory now, right? Well, maybe not, but there are starting to be some signs of positive. Justin Morneau went opposite field for a home run, one of his two hits. Trevor Plouffe homered for the second straight game. Brian Dozier is inching up on .300. PJ Walters was terrific through four scoreless innings, but between the fifth and sixth innings, he gave up three solo home runs to cut the Twins lead to 4-3. But ...
  6. Twins Minor League Notebook

    by , 05-07-2012 at 01:07 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
I was asked to be a guest on KFAN’s Baseball Weekly with Gleeman & The Geek on Sunday. I was on the second segment of the show and shared a Good, a Bad and an “Other” story. It was a fun segment and I encourage you to listen to the podcast, if you haven’t already.

It was fun to do some research on each of those topics, and I thought that I would share some of that with you today. Obviously we could talk about Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario, and that’s good, but we want to make sure ...

The Twins got a Quality Start from Jason Marquis, but the bullpen struggled mightily and in the end, it was too much Felix Hernandez as the Mariners topped the Twins 7-0. The King went eight shutout innings against the Twins and allowed just one hit, a ground ball single between first and second base in the fourth inning.

It was the third time in their last four games that the Twins have been shutout. Earlier in the day, the Twins did announce that Justin Morneau’s wrist was not getting ...

    by , 04-25-2012 at 01:04 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins were pretty well dominated by the Red Sox on Tuesday night, losing 11-2. Nick Blackburn was crushed. Matt Maloney was crushed. The offense didn’t come through. There was even some bad defense. Its’ a good thing that there are plenty of positive things going on in the Twins farm system to give us positive stuff to talk about!
Here is a look at the Twins minor league scores and highlights from Tuesday:

    ROCHESTER, SYRACUSE

  10. Tuesday Twins Minor League Report

    by , 04-18-2012 at 11:32 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins lost to the Yankees and CC Sabathia on Tuesday night, but there was plenty to talk about in the minor league system. A Japanese import had a big game. An MVP from independent ball had a second straight big game. The Snappers played two, and the big man from the Dominican launched home run #5 on the young season, to keep up with Josh Willingham for the organizational lead! The minor leagues finished the day 3-2. Here is a look at the Twins minor league games from Tuesday and even more ...
  11. Sunday Game Notes and Highlights

    by , 04-15-2012 at 08:33 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins took a tough 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon to fall to 2-7 on the young season. The Twins arrived in New York City on Sunday night and will play four games against the Yankees starting on Monday. They then go to Tampa to play the Rays before getting to play the Red Sox. We all knew it would be a tough start to the season. It’s definitely shaping up to be just that. Down on the farm, the Twins affiliates went 3-1, and at least there are plenty of storylines to follow.

    Liam Hendrik’s ...

After starting the season 0-4, the Twins won their last two games and scored a combined 16 runs, games started by Jered Weaver and Dan Haren. It was a full night in the Twins minor league system as well. For much more information on many Twins minor leaguers, be sure to listen to last night’s Twins Minor League Weekly podcast.

    ROCHESTER 1, PAWTUCKET 10

This was a very close game most of the way, but it got out of hand in a hurry. Daryl Thompson started and gave up two ...
  13. Monday in the Minors

    by , 04-09-2012 at 11:12 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
Twins minor league affiliates had not won a game since Friday. All four affiliates lost on Saturday. Rochester was the only team to play on Sunday, but they lost. On Monday, the Twins affiliates were back to their winning ways as all four teams won. Not only that, but some of the organization’s top prospects either continued to hit or broke out a little bit. Eddie Rosario, Brian Dozier and Danny Santana continued to rake. Meanwhile, Miguel Sano had a special day, and Levi Michael and Aaron Hicks ...
  14. Twins Upper Level Talent

    by , 03-07-2012 at 11:29 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
How many times this offseason have you heard the phrase, “The Twins have some really good prospects but they don’t have any in the upper levels of their farm system?” I hear it all the time, and frankly, it kind of hits a nerve with me.

In 2011, the Twins had a season in which pretty much everyone got hurt and missed significant time. That meant more playing time for Luke Hughes and Trevor Plouffe and Ben Revere which may prove valuable as early as 2012. Those guys were rushed. Ben ...
