  1. Saturday in the Minor League Parks

    by , 08-11-2012 at 10:56 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
Three batters into the game, Nick Blackburn had given up two mammoth home runs and the Twins were down 3-0. He actually settled down nicely after that, giving up just one more run (a second long BJ Upton home run) and working into the 7th inning. The bullpen did a nice job and kept the Rays at four runs. Unfortunately, the Twins offense didn’t do much in this game off of David Price. Justin Morneau and Darin Mastroianni each had two hits. Brian Dozier hit hit sixth home run. The Twins fall to 49-64. ...
  2. Patience Probable with Prep Picks

    by , 06-21-2012 at 04:29 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Since the Twins drafted outfielder Byron Buxton with the second overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, the question I hear most is, “When do you think we will see Buxton in a Minnesota Twins uniform?” We can all venture our guesses bases on what we’ve read about an 18 year old, but no one knows. He could come up as a 20 year old in 2014, as a 24 year old in 2018, or he may never make it up to the big league club.

Another question I have heard frequently over the last two years is when ...
  3. Sunday Game Notes

    by , 06-11-2012 at 12:57 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
On Sunday afternoon, the Twins last the series finale to the Cubs by a score of 8-2. However, the Twins won yet another series. They will have another day off on Monday before hosting the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers this coming week. Francisco Liriano started on Sunday for the Twins and gave up four runs on four hits in 5.2 innings. He walked three and struck out six. Trevor Plouffe raised his average to .217 with a 2-4 day. Jamey Carroll was also 2-4. He hit a double and is now ...
  4. "Opening Day is One Week Away" Roster Projections

    by , 03-30-2012 at 07:19 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
It's hard to believe, but after a long 2011 season and a very long offseason, Opening Day is just one week away for the Twins and the rest of baseball (except the A's and Mariners, I guess.). I have been doing these weekly roster projections for for weeks, and it's a lot of fun. As much as we like to think our roster projections a month out look pretty solid, it's impossible to know. No one could have predicted that Chris Parmelee would perform so well. And who knew with the bullpen.

  5. Two-Weeks-To-Opening-Day Roster Projections

    by , 03-23-2012 at 10:57 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The past two weeks, I have attempted to project the Twins Opening Day roster. This week, we’ll try it again. I still believe that there are 20 “Givens” at this point, two weeks before Opening Day. I also believe that the five remaining positions are all pretty intriguing and could have several possibilities at this point, especially since there are some injury questions with Scott Baker and Justin Morneau.

There are still 39 players in Twins big league camp which means 14 players need ...
  6. Twins' Towles Towering Tater Tops Tampa 5-3

    by , 03-04-2012 at 03:04 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
I’m sure discussions were beginning about what would happen should this game need to go to extra innings. The Twins sent a split-squad roster to play the Rays, so there were only a certain number of pitchers available. That’s when catcher JR Towles stepped to the plate with a runner on in the top of the 9th. The #3-catcher hopeful hit a fly ball that, with the help of a strong wind, landed on the other side of the fence for a two-run homer that gave the Twins a 5-3 lead.

    Towles ...
  7. Organizational Depth Chart: The Outfielders

    by , 01-31-2012 at 11:55 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
At this point, we have reviewed the infielders and catchers throughout the Twins organization. Today, we will jump to the outfield. This information, of course, could be completely altered by an unexpected free agent signing or a trade. This exercise is not so much an attempt to perfectly predict where all of these players will wind up. In reality, there will be changes. Several players will be released. Some will be placed a level higher (or lower) than I would guess. This is just giving readers ...
