  1. Twins MLB Draft Profile: Austin Meadows, OF

    by , Yesterday at 11:20 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
Today, we continue our look at players that the Minnesota Twins could consider drafting with the #4 overall pick in next month's MLB Draft. Today, we look at an uber-talented prep player from a baseball hotbed!

    Who Is This Guy?

It can be argued that outfielder Austin Meadows is the top-rated high school position player in the 2013 MLB Draft. It can also be argued that Austin Meadows is not the top-rated high school position player in the 2013 MLB Draft from Loganville, ...

  2. Twins Minor League Report (5/20): Pitching - FAIL.

by , Yesterday at 09:22 PM
A couple of feel-good notes from earlier today:

Minnesota native and former St. Paul Saint, LRP Caleb Thielbar was recalled and will take the roster spot of LP Pedro Hernandez. He was impressive in his big-league debut as well. (The TwinsDaily Roster & Payroll page has been updated to reflect this move as well as all the others that have occurred.)

Chris Colabello was named IL Player of the Week for last week when he batted .586 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI. Rob Antony ...
  3. Who is Caleb Thielbar?

by , Yesterday at 05:57 PM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
It has been quite the wild ride for Mr. Caleb J. Thielbar on his way to the major leagues.

The 26-year old left-hander was called-up by the Minnesota Twins on Monday after the team demoted fifth starter Pedro Hernandez. Thielbar is not a starter so the team will need to make another roster move before Friday's game to fill out the rotation. Options for this spot include Kyle Gibson, Sam Deduno, and PJ Walters.

Thielbar was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th ...

Welp. The Twins weren't really supposed to be good or even decent this season, so a 2-7 homestand isn't crazy. It's more disappointing, after what seemed like a such a positive start. Regardless, this franchise is clearly trending upward, even if this past week doesn't reflect that.

The thing that struck me the most from the weekend was another shaky Scott Diamond start. I did a detailed breakdown ...

He might have the highest ceiling of any pitching prospect in this year's draft class. A few years ago Sean Manaea was a raw high school kid with bad grades and no first-round aspirations, but now at age 21 he's in the conversation to become the first lefty pitcher drafted No. 1 overall since David Price in 2007.

At 6'5" and 230 lbs, Manaea has the ability to reach the mid-90s from the left side, making him a rare specimen. He ...

  8. Twins Minor League Report (5/19): Gibson, Richardson, Colabello Star

    by , 05-19-2013 at 07:24 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins and the Red Sox had a nice three hour rain delay, and fans were treated to The Sandlot during the delay. There was plenty of excitement in the Twins minor league system as well. One of the Twins top prospects almost made a little bit of history. One of the Twins minor league affiliates won on a walk off. A couple of non-roster players continued to make their cases for a big league roster spot.

With that, check out what happened with the Twins minor league teams on Sunday: ...

  9. Player Profile: Samuel Deduno

Goldstein Ranked the Twins' system 22nd-deduno_55_vtcjs8n5_isipj0uz.jpg

Entering his 10th professional season, it’s safe to say that 2012 was his best year in Samuel Deduno’s career thus far. Not only did Deduno end the year in the Minnesota Twins rotation, but he also had the opportunity to pitch for the Dominican Republic, his home country, in the World Baseball Classic.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Colorado Rockies in 2003, 19 year old Samuel Deduno was on the road to pursuing his dream ...

A couple days ago I realized that the Rochester Red Wings were playing the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at my back yard. Literally, their ballpark (Coca Cola Park) is less than half an hour away from my door, so I make a point to go and see the Red Wings every year when they play there. This was their second game here, and by choice I went today instead of yesterday, because Kyle Gibson was pitching. There were a lot of conflicting ...

  11. Adopt a Prospect Volume 2.2: De-Restraining the Force Inside

by , 05-19-2013 at 05:27 PM (Peanuts from Heaven)
It's a frickin' monsoon out there little rainy today, and rather than stare hopefully at the FSN rain delay, hoping that the game restarts and the Twins suddenly remember the good ol' days of two weeks ago when they could crush the Red Sox as easily as a twig under a space ship, we decided to revisit our old pal Luis Perdomo!

Then we saw the statistics and remembered that Luis needs a motivation coach. So it's high time for lesson number two:

    Dan Ford (1952)

Outfielder Darnell Glenn “Disco Danny” Ford played for the Twins from 1975-1978. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Ford was drafted by Oakland in the first round in 1970. He spent his first two seasons at Class A Burlington, hitting .354 with 18 homers the second year. That got him promoted to AAA Tucson, where he also spent two seasons. Ford hit around .280 with double digit home runs in each season, but the Athletics were apparently ...
