  1. Twins Minor League Report (6/17): It's a Miracle

by , Yesterday at 10:40 PM
It was a relatively slow day in the world of Twins Baseball with only two of the five ball clubs active. Though that didn't prevent us from hearing some pretty newsworthy things.

Twins first round draft pick Kohl Stewart is en route to the Twin Cities. In fact, at 9:28 pm, he tweeted a photo of Target Field from the Twins dugout. He's obviously not signed, sealed and delivered. But he's well on the way. I'm holding out hope that the deal gets done by tomorrow afternoon and he throws ...
  2. How Are AA Pitchers Approaching Miguel Sano?

by , Yesterday at 10:24 PM
Last week, I was in the right place at the right time: the AA debuts of top Twins' prospect Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario. One big takeaway from Sano's and Rosario's first couple AA games was that their reputations preceded them; in other words, pitchers knew who these guys were. Take a look at the (grainy amateur) video I shot of some early at-bats -- the pitches weren't even close. As a result, Sano and Rosario, but Sano especially, seemed to only get maybe 1 pitch per at-bat in his wheelhouse. ...
  3. Could Eric Young Jr.’s Next Stop be in Minnesota?

    Article originally published on RantSports.com

On June 12, the Colorado Rockies designated outfielder and leadoff hitter Eric Young Jr. for assignment and recalled right-handed reliever Chris Volstad from the team's Triple-A affiliate. While you already may have heard this news, and ...
  4. The Twins and the Yankees have been at it longer than anyone can remember.

For a large fraction of the Minnesota Twins fans, the Yankees clearly represent three things: a franchise that has a bottomless pit for a budget and can buy players and championships, a team that after the wild card was established the Twins have to face in every post-season, and the team that the Twins (the good Twins' teams) lost to in every post-season. So the Yankees have been the proverbial thorn on the Twins' side ...

  5. The Curious Case of Kyle Gibson

by , Yesterday at 05:35 PM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
The middle of June has come and gone and there is no sign of Kyle Gibson in the Twin Cities.

Teams like the Rays and the Mets are calling up top prospects like Wil Myers and Zack Wheeler because the deadline has passed for players to qualify for Super Two status. This means the Rays and Mets can control these high level players for a big chunk of the next decade.

Gibson has a different story than some other players. The former first round pick entered the Twins system ...

    Tom Drees (1963)

This is also the birthday of Ray Scott (1919), who broadcast Twins games from 1961-1966 and 1973-1975.

Lefthander Thomas Kent Drees did not play for the Twins, but was at AAA for them in 1993. He was born in Des Moines, went to high school in Edina, Minnesota, attended Creighton University, and was drafted by the White Sox in the seventeenth round in 1985. He did really well in the Gulf Coast League that year, walked ...

  7. Monday Morning Madness: June 17, 2013

by , Yesterday at 07:00 AM (Kevin Slowey was Framed!)
The Twins dropped two of three from the Tigers this weekend, falling to 7.5 games out of a division that they were never going to win. While the Twins have played better in 2013, they still do not have the talent to match the Tigers over a full season. Yet, there were some positives from the weekend and I have some apologies to make as well.

I apologize to Clete Thomas. Just one week ago, I accused a wild turkey of creating a lineup that featured Clete Thomas batting second. While ...
  8. The Future of Trevor Plouffe

by , Yesterday at 06:39 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
Plouffe reentered the Twins line-up this weekend with a bang. This was great to see from the former first round pick but one has to look at the future of Twins baseball and wonder what his place will be with this organization. It seems as if the Twins are still a couple years away from contending and that could mean some changes for the 27-year old Plouffe.

Twins fans will best remember Plouffe for his Ruthian like hot streak during the middle of last season. In a stretch of 14 games, ...
  9. Twins on Twitter - mid-June Update

    by , 06-16-2013 at 10:48 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
It's been about six weeks since we last updated which people in the Minnesota Twins organization are on Twitter. Since that time, several players have started tweeting while other players are new to the organization. This list does include several of the Twins 2013 draft picks. If they choose not to sign, they will be removed from the list, of course.

Twitter is a great way to interact with players and with your favorite Twins bloggers. Be sure to follow the following Twins Daily writers ...

  10. Those Damn Yankees: The Cuzzi Call

    by , 06-16-2013 at 10:45 PM (Nick's Twins Blog)
Love 'em or hate 'em, the Yankees are headed to down in the beginning of July. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first of three Twins postseason defeats at the hands of the Bronx Bombers, so we thought we'd take the opportunity to look back at what has been a lopsided -- but always entertaining and memorable -- rivalry between the two franchises. Over the next couple weeks leading up to the Yankees series at Target Field, various writers here at Twins Daily will look back at some of ...

Aaron and John talk about their night in a Target Field suite, praying for Samuel Deduno, Oswaldo Arcia showing he belongs again, Clete Thomas subbing for Aaron Hicks, the Byron Buxton experience, Trevor Plouffe coming off the disabled list hot, grumpy Bonnes and sunny Gleeman, starting a team from scratch, releasing Anthony Slama, mailbag questions from listeners, and being chased by the cops. 12. Rochester Recap: Continuing to Turn Things Around

    by , 06-16-2013 at 09:52 PM
    Spring Training - Game 14 - at Phillies-frontier-field-.jpg

Rapidly approaching the midpoint of the season, the Rochester Red Wings sit just two games short of the .500 mark at 34-36 after sweeping the four game series against the Gwinnett Braves this weekend.

Currently in fourth place in the Northern division, seven games back, it seems like it was just a month ago that we were wondering what kind of season this was going to be in Rochester, so what has changed?

    Despite ...

  14. Twins Minor League Report (6/16): Kernels Krumble

    by , 06-16-2013 at 08:12 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
Coming into Sunday, the final day of the first half of the Midwest League season, the Cedar Rapids Kernels had won just three of their last ten games. Meanwhile, the Beloit Snappers had won eight of ten. Both teams have clinches a playoff spot, but both teams had a chance to win the division crown. For the Kernels to win the title, they had to win AND the Snappers needed to lose. So, what happened? Well, you’ll need to read below for that answer. Another question to ask yourself is; Did Byron Buxton ...
