The long, rich history of baseball is a wonderful topic to tackle from time to time.

  1. Those Damn Yankees: Chuck Knoblauch

by , Yesterday at 06:18 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
Love 'em or hate 'em, the Yankees are headed to town in early July. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first of four Twins postseason defeats at the hands of the Bronx Bombers, so we thought we'd take the opportunity to look back at what has been a lopsided -- but always entertaining and memorable -- rivalry between the two franchises. Over the next couple weeks leading up to the Yankees series at Target Field, various writers here at Twins Daily will look back at some of the Yankee moments ...
  2. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

by , 05-31-2013 at 06:06 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
After some miserable baseball in Twins Territory, this week wasn't so bad for the hometown nine. It helps to play the lowly Brewers but it is still important to win games no matter who the opponent is. There were some close games but the club was able to steal a couple wins in Milwaukee before the two teams switched venues.

The trip back to Target Field turned out to be just as good for the Twins. Minnesota won both games on their home turf. It was also nice to see the team pound out ...

Tragedy struck Boston on Monday with the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon.

A very visible sporting event was attacked and this story hit home with a lot of us. It can be frightening to think about attacks happening at big events but people are resilient. There were numerous positive stories coming out of the tragedy. A former New England Patriots lineman carried a woman to safety and there were plenty of other stories like this.

Many teams around the world of ...
  4. Twins No Hitters Broken Up in the Ninth

by , 04-04-2013 at 06:46 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
The Rangers sure like to get within one out of accomplishing something big. A couple of years ago, Texas was an out away in more than one game from the club's first World Series title. On Tuesday night, Yu Darvish did his best to fit in with the Rangers by getting within one out of a perfect game. He too would fall short of making history.

Since the Twins moved to Minnesota in 1961, there have five times when a Twins pitcher has taken a no-hitter into the ninth inning. Many fans might ...
  5. Have the Twins been lucky in the Gardenhire Era?

"Luck is the great stabilizer in baseball"--- Tris Speaker, Hall of Fame Centerfielder

Baseball is a game of numbers. The statistical side of the game continues to grow as the Sabermetric world adds new information. There are stats for what seems like everything that a person can think of in relation to baseball.

One area of baseball is hard to quantify and it can be the area that makes the game so exciting to follow. There is an element of luck involved and it can be ...
  6. Twins All-President Players List

by , 02-18-2013 at 07:44 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
    Happy President's Day!

Getting past this day means that the start of the baseball season is one step closer. Fans could start purchasing Twins single game tickets over the weekend. This is always a fun day for people across Twins Territory to pick out the games they want to attend and where they want to sit.

Since today is a day set up to honor some of the greatest leaders in our countries history, I only thought it fitting to write a post that fit with that theme. ...
  7. Worst Twins of All-Time Series: Ron Davis

Over the last couple of weeks, I have looked back at some of the worst players to ever suit up in a Twins uniform. There have been some poor players to wear these colors and it can be fun to look back on their careers. Some of these men went on to have successful careers in baseball or even outside of the baseball world.

Here is a rundown of all of the players that have been covered so far in the "Worst Twins of All-Time Series" with links back to the original articles:

  8. Power Outage Hit Metrodome in '92

    Where is Revere Most Valuable?-life_g_metrodome11_576.jpg
Most sports fans are well aware that the Super Bowl was played last night. Those that watched the game also know that one of the biggest story lines of the night was when a power surge caused the lights to go out in the Superdome. It took about a half an hour for the whole ordeal to get worked out and for the players to get back on the field.

The Twins played under the Metrodome roof for close to three decades and there are bound to be a few mishaps ...
  9. Worst Twins of All-Time Series: Matt Walbeck

by , 01-24-2013 at 06:52 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
As the weather continues to stay cold across most of Twins Territory, the baseball season continues to seem like it is light years away. This week's Twins Caravan and this weekend's TwinsFest will help to get fans back in the baseball spirit. It also means that it is creeping closer to the start of spring training. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

This part of the deep offseason can be full of a lot of downtime for baseball fans. Lucky enough for readers of this site, I have ...
  10. Killebrew, Musial were alike on and off the field

Twins fans know the kind of mourning that Cardinals are going through. Stan Musial, the greatest Cardinals player to ever live, passed away this weekend at the age of 92. Less than two years ago the Twins were mourning the loss of their own great player, Harmon Killebrew. These two players are two of the best players in the history of the game and their character off the field shown just as bright as these stars did on it.

    Killebrew and Musial had ...
  11. Morris' candidacy seems all but dead

For the first time since 1996, the Baseball Writers' Association of America did not select anyone to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This was the eighth time that no one was selected by the writers but most onlookers could see this coming. The influx of suspected steroid users on the ballot makes it tough to judge players and there has been plenty of debate surrounding who should be elected in the coming years.

    Craig Biggio was ...
  12. Worst Twins of All-Time Series: Terry Felton

by , 01-09-2013 at 06:49 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
Last week, I kicked off an entertaining series to look at some of the players that performed at their worst while wearing a Twins uniform. In recent memory, Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Jason Marquis come to mind as the poster boys for futility in Minnesota but there have been plenty of other names throughout the history of the franchise.

My first player profile in the series was Butch Huskey. I didn't really have a reason for starting with Huskey but his story provided a good narrative for ...
  13. Worst Twins of All-Time Series: Butch Huskey

by , 01-03-2013 at 07:12 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
There can be plenty debate about which player is the best in the history of the franchise. Arguments can be made for Kirby Puckett, Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew, etc. Puckett brought World Series Championships to the Twins Cities, Killebrew hit mammoth home runs, and Carew might be the best pure hitter in franchise history. Those debates can be fun and there really isn't a wrong answer because they are all important parts of Twins history.

On the other side of the coin, there have ...
  14. In Memoriam: 2012

by , 01-02-2013 at 06:56 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
The end of a year brings about plenty of post about the top stories of the year. On Monday, I wrote a post looking back at some of the top Twins headlines from 2012. This included positive years from Josh Willingham and Joe Mauer along with some other news stories that defined the last calendar year for the Twins organization.

At the end of the year, it can be an important time to remember all of those that we lost in 2012. The 2011 season saw the Twins dealing with the loss of one ...
