  2. See a fit for Skip?

    by , 12-07-2012 at 07:40 AM
I was thinking about him all last year. As a fan in birdland, Skip has seemed like a good fit for the twins for awhile. This confirms Twins are least knocking it around. What do y'all think?

  3. Ben Revere's Best Moments

Another week and another center fielder has been traded away by the Twins.

Ben Revere was dealt on Thursday afternoon to the Philadelphia Phillies for starting pitcher Vance Worley and pitching prospect Trevor May. Worley has about the same amount of service time as Revere but the Twins are desperate for pitching and he will slide nicely into the rotation for next season. May was considered the best pitching prospect in the Phillies system before ...

ID:	2827When the Minnesota Twins traded Ben Revere to the Philadelphia Phillies, they acquired one pitcher who can help the team immediately, Vance Worley, and another who is expected to contribute in the future in Trevor May.

Because Worley is the known commodity who will be a member the starting rotation right away, let’s focus on him first and breakdown May next week.

Aaron and John talk about the Twins trading Ben Revere to the Phillies for Vance Worley and Trevor May, what it means for team's 2013 plans, how much everyone is counting on Aaron Hicks, what John and Aaron did after the last podcast, why Darrin Mastroianni suddenly has a big role, what the farm system looks like after back-to-back big trades, the Rule 5 draft, whether Justin Morneau and Josh Willingham are next up on the trading block, and John's dog's digestive system. And just when fans were getting past losing Denard Span, another fun-to-watch, ...

  7. Twins Punting 2013? Not So Fast

    by , 12-06-2012 at 06:47 PM (Nick's Twins Blog)
Ben Revere swingsTrading established players for prospects is the sign of a rebuilding team, and that is certainly what we've seen from Terry Ryan with his first few major moves this offseason. Many casual fans have expressed outrage over trades that sent Denard Span and Ben Revere – cornerstones in the Minnesota outfield – to the NL East for young pitching geared more toward the big picture than immediate improvement.

The two prizes acquired in these deals, Alex Meyer ...
  8. Twins, Burton Near Agreement for a Contract Extension

    by , 12-06-2012 at 03:48 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
According to Darren "Doogie" Wolfson (via twitter), he has learned that the Twins and the representatives for Jared Burton have reached an agreement on a contract extension. It sounds like it would before for 2013, 2014 and that there would be an option for 2015. Terms of the deal have not yet been announced. We will update them here as soon as we get them.

Last week, the Twins tendered him a contract. This is the final year of arbitration-eligibility so the contract would buy-out ...

  9. Does Ben Revere’s Departure Portend Justin Morneau Trade?

    by , 12-06-2012 at 02:49 PM (TwinsGeek.com)
It was the second big trade of the offseason for the Minnesota Twins, and the second concrete indicator to the league and to fans that General Manager Terry Ryan is looking beyond 2013. Indeed, it was the second time in which a trade likely made the Twins worse for the 2013, instead of better.

Which is odd, because it was a great trade. Ben Revere has plenty of value, but was not without question marks and could be replaceable as early as the second half of this year. The pitchers the Twins received in return, ...

I drive by Target Field nearly every day. In the off-season, it looks like a brand new piece of playground equipment. The next time I go past it, it'll look broken-in.

Target Field's not Yankee stadium, but it deserves history. And what's history without a few ghosts?

Revere was a player with a future. Moving him is smart. Giving up winter dreams about his potential will still hurt.

I was as ready as I could be to lose Span. Losing Revere came as a surprise. ...

  11. Revere Traded to Philly for Worley

    by , 12-06-2012 at 11:31 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Sources are reporting that the Minnesota Twins have traded CF Ben Revere to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for RHP Vance Worley and a prospect. The prospect is Trevor May.

Revere was the heir apparent for the Twins Center Field job going back to when Denard Span was dealt to the Washington Nationals for RHP Alex Meyer. He will go to the Phillies where he and Span will compete (with BJ Upton) for NL East (CF) supremacy.

Vance Worley has spent parts of the past three ...

  12. Shift In Free Agency Strategy Doesn't Favor The Minnesota Twins

    by , 12-06-2012 at 09:18 AM (TwinsGeek.com)
The Minnesota Twins might be looking back to the good old days wistfully for a reason other than wanting to relive their decade of glory. For instance, signing free agents used to be a relatively orderly business:

    1. Teams that needed a great pitcher would chase the best (or best remaining) pitcher, hoping to get him.
    2. One team would get him.
    3. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

That’s oversimplifying a little, but in general, free agents would sign from the top down. In fact, free ...

  13. Twins Select RHP Ryan Pressly in Rule 5 Draft

    by , 12-06-2012 at 09:08 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
With the 4th overall pick in the 2012 Rule 5 draft, the Minnesota Twins drafted RHP Ryan Pressley from the Boston Red Sox organization.

John Manuel reports that he throws up to 95 mph. The 22 year old split the 2012 season between Hi-A and AA.
