  1. Twins Minor League Report (4/28): Duffey Does it Again

    by , 04-28-2013 at 09:05 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
t was bound to happen. The four Twins full-season minor league affiliates had all won each of the past three days. That’s a 12-0 record. On Sunday, that streak broke as two of the affiliates won. That said, all four games were decided by two runs or less. There is some very good baseball being played in the Twins farm system.

Speaking of very good baseball, the Minnesota Twins are back over .500 again after a 5-0 win over the Texas Rangers. Kevin Correia continued his impressive April ...

  2. Rochester Red Wings Review: This is What We've Been Waiting For

    Article: Projected Twins Roster-frontier-field-.jpg

After finishing an eight game home stand at 3-5, the Rochester Red Wings took the short trip up the New York Thruway to Syracuse to play the Chiefs (Nationals). Last season the Red Wings won just three games in Syracuse, something that they would match in their first trip to NBT Bank Stadium.

In their four game series against the Chiefs, Rochester scored 31 runs on 50 hits. ...

    RANGERS AT HOME

Have Cap, Will Travel (Game 18)

Took the wife to Wits at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, where Michael Ian Black joined the show for the evening. Black is a comedic laser so sharp you can correct people’s vision with his jokes.

Wits projects tweets onto the wall before the performance and at intermission. Couple tweeters in attendance used the board as a way of checking the score. Caught a couple Twins caps and jackets in the audience, ...

He was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and signed with Washington as a free agent in 1953. 6. Anatomy of a Rock Cats Win & Postgame Conversation with James Beresford

    by , 04-27-2013 at 10:39 PM
It was a picture perfect night for baseball in Connecticut. No, our winter didn't extend into late April, as it did in Minnesota, but this was one of the first days where it actually would have made sense to wear t-shirts and shorts around town. 4,615 were in attendance this evening as the Rock Cats took on the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

  7. 20 Games and Potential Logjams

    by , 04-27-2013 at 10:02 PM
The Twins have hit the 20 game milestone and are a breakeven 10-10. Considering the pessimism going into the season, we Twins fans should be happy with the results. Some raw numbers: Run differential is -6. Team ERA is 3.92, the Twins have scored 83 runs despite only 13 homers and a league-worst slugging percentage. They are 5-2 in one-run games and have allowed only 11 homers, second best in the AL. Many of these stats can't be sustained--they will allow more homers and win fewer close games--but ...
  8. Twins Minor League Report (4/27): Broomsticks

    by , 04-27-2013 at 09:58 PM
Lots of drama today. Fortunately, the drama all ended in celebration. (Even for the Minnesota Wild.)

The Twins got back to .500 this afternoon after beating the Rangers 7-2. Pedro Hernandez provided a very strong shutout effort (5 IP, 5 H, BB, 3 K). The bullpen continued to shine, preserving the shutout while the offense added a handful of insurance runs. Glen Perkins pitched a very low-leverage ninth. He walked the first two batters before getting the next two guys out. He then ...

Josh Burris last game experience involved a game tying HR in the bottom of the 9th and an extra inning Walk Off Grand Slam (Elizabethton 2012 Championship Game). In his first game of the 2013 season - Burris experiences a game with a crazy and similar ending.

  10. Exposing a Hidden Hall of Fame Player?

Outfielder Patrick Orlando Lennon was in the Twins’ minor league system for a couple of months in 1995. Born and raised in Whiteville, North Carolina, he was named North Carolina High School Athlete of the Year in 1986 and was drafted by Seattle with the eighth pick of the 1986 draft. His early minor league numbers were fairly pedestrian, but in 1991 he hit .329 with 15 ...

  12. My Love for Video Games-OOTP '14

    by , 04-27-2013 at 09:23 AM
When I was younger, my brothers and I loved to play video games. We took a liking to games of all kinds, but especially enjoyed playing baseball games together. Typically we wouldn’t “play” many of the games, we would simulate them. This allowed us to get in a number of seasons in a short amount of time. We would sit for hours in front of the television, hanging on every game in the careers of imaginary players on a screen. It sounds ridiculous, but video games gave us a hope that these players ...

  13. Twins Minor League Report (4/26): Walker Powers Kernels

    by , 04-27-2013 at 12:39 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
On Friday night, the Minnesota Twins fell 4-3 to the Texas Rangers. A three-run home run off the bat of Oswaldo Arcia with two outs in the bottom of the ninth was all of the scoring for the Twins. Scott Diamond was immensely hittable, and the defense failed to make a couple of plays.

However, for the second straight night, all four Twins full-season minor league affiliates were winners. One power-hitting prospect homered for the third time in four games. An equally powerful young man ...

  14. What is Aaron Hicks' true K-rate?

    by , 04-26-2013 at 03:27 PM
Aaron Hicks has struck out 22 times in his first 17 big league games. His K-rate currently sits at 31.4%, tied for 10th worst in baseball with jay Bruce. a career 23.7% k-rate batter.

According to Charlie Adams at Beyond the Boxscore (courtesy of Pizza Cutter at StatSpeak.net) k-rates stabilize after about 150 PAs. But instead of waiting 20 more games for Hicks to reach that benchmark, I'm going to instead look at contact rate and guesstimate what Hicks' true k-rate might be based off ...
