Cross one name off the trade deadline "selling" list. Ryan Doumit is here to stay – at least for the foreseeable future. Pleased with the impact of their offseason acquisition, the Twins announced Friday that they've signed the backup catcher and frequent DH to a two-year contract extension worth $7 million. As the 2011 season came to a close, it had become clear that the catcher position was in drastic need of an upgrade. Joe Mauer, battling ...
There are things in this game that are seriously driving me crazy. An example: The Twins are up by three runs in the top of the ninth. Capps (or Perkins or Burton) is warming up in the pen to come in to pitch the bottom of the 9th for the save. The Twins hit a homerun making it a four run game. Capps will sit down and Burnett will start warming up. Why? Because it is no longer a save situation. The only instance in sports where a managers decision is based solely on whether or ...
Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After a rough series with the White Sox, the Twins had an off day on Thursday to enjoy the Harmon Killebrew Foundation Golf Tournament and other activities in the Twin Cities. The team will pick up play this weekend with four games against the Kansas City Royals and that includes a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. At this point last season, the Twins made a run to pull themselves a little closer before the All-Star Break and ...
For the 9-to-5ers in Twins Territory, those who did not attend the game should consider themselves lucky they stayed in the office rather than witness Nick Blackburn’s last start on Wednesday afternoon. For the second consecutive start, Blackburn was punished across the field, allowing another pair of home runs to Chicago’s Adam Dunn and Alex Rios. The one-time groundball-getter has failed to induce the batted ball types that earned him that label. In those two starts, he managed to ...
It was an off-day on a hot day for the Minnesota Twins. For season ticket holders and others, you may have spent the evening listening to fans grill Trevor Plouffe and Scott Diamond. Some highlights from the 6th Fan Forum: Scott Diamond: The best thing about being Canadian? It’s being Canadian! On differences between Atlanta and Minnesota: “The atmosphere… feeling welcome.” Trevor Plouffe: On his hair – “I probably will (grow my hair out).” On ...

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan As part of the Twins off day on Thursday, the Twins held their sixth Fan Forum with current third baseman Trevor Plouffe and left-handed pitcher Scott Diamond. This conference call allows season ticket holders, "On-Deck" members, and group organizers to ask a variety of questions in the hour long event. There were also multiple prizes given ...
After losing 2 lefties in 1 day, the Yankees would seem to be a logical desitnation for Francisco Liriano After I not-so-closely followed yesterday's Twins debacle on my computer, I realized that this game was the turning point for me. ...
Frequent visitors to this site might have noticed the logo on the right side of the page for the Baseball Bloggers Alliance. There are a few different obligations that come along being part of this organization. Through out the year, the members vote on who should be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, all of the end of the season awards (MVP, Rookie of the Year, etc), and various ...
This article was originally posted at Minnesota Sports Hub. Byron Buxton Position: OF Age: 18 Drafted: 1st Round, 2nd pick The Twins have always been infatuated with toolsy outfielders so it wasn’t a surprise when they passed on several high end collegiate pitchers in order to grab Buxton with the 2nd overall pick. Even without that infatuation it would have been hard to pass up on a player that many consider to be ...
Oh boy, it was a rough one for the Twins, who took the "pitch-to-contact" mentality to a new level when they gave up a combined 21 hits to the White Sox in what ended up being an ugly 12-5 loss. After the game, it was announced that pitcher Kyle Waldorp had been recalled to Minnesota, and Jeff Manship was optioned. It was also announced that the Twins acquired pitcher Shairon Martis from the Pirates. Don't get too excited; this sounds just like a move to acquire ...

The Big Picture The Rangers have been the American League representative in the World Series each of the past two seasons. In 2012, they are 46-29 and battling with the New York Yankees for the best record in the league. To no surprise, the Los Angeles Angels have started playing (pitching) better and despite a slow start, they are just 4.5 games behind Texas. Why They Will Trade With the Twins The Rangers don’t have a lot of needs. Generally, they are considered ...

Today I went to the mlb website and read some of the comments concerning Robertson's MLB debut, Revere, and Gardy's thoughts on who are All-Stars for he Twins. I also made the mistake of reading the comments and I have problems with them. 1) A large majority of the comments were simply dissing Gardy. I understand being frustrated but in my opinion Gardenhire has been a solid, if unspectacular manager. The Twins have hit a rough patch in their history and Gardy is getting ripped apart. 2) Many of ...
Ever since his demotion to the bullpen, Francisco Liriano has been back to his new-old self. In 37.1 innings, Liriano has posted a much improved 2.41 ERA, limited hitters to a .157 average against and has struck out 40 while walking just 14 thanks to rekindling his relationship with his dirty, dirty slider. Nevertheless, even with the improvement, the Twins front office has to be considering moving the enigmatic starter at the upcoming trade ...
