  1. Wednesday's Twins Minor League Daily

    by , 06-06-2012 at 09:45 PM
    It was a veritable clash of the titans tonight, as the Twins took on the Royals. Without Joe Mauer and Denard Span in the lineup, the Twins were still able to plate some runs. As I publish tonight's TwinsDaily minor league report, the good guys are on top 4-2, so let's hope it stays that way!

    All of the affiliates were in action tonight, so let's see how they fared.

  2. Nationals Should Not Be Lone Suitor For Denard Span

    by , 06-06-2012 at 08:53 PM (TwinsGeek.com)
    Last year in Twins Territory, Denard Span was the hot topic as the trade deadline approached, much to Span’s dismay. This year, we’ve read that the Nationals are still interested in Span. They certainly should be, given their stop gap centerfield solution, Rick Ankiel, is hitting just .221.

    But they likely aren’t going to be alone. Span plays a premier defensive position competently, but more importantly he gets on base as a leadoff hitter. One can bet a few of the below teams will ...

ID:	1149On May 13, not long after sending down incumbent third baseman Danny Valencia to AAA, the Twins GM Terry Ryan called out the option-less Plouffe to step up his game:

    “I’d like to think we’re going to give Plouffe an opportunity here to step up and see what we’ve got. Eventually, we’re going to have to find out.”

    Heading into the May 16 contest in Detroit, he was staring down a .133/.288/.217 batting line in 73 plate appearances. The lack ...

  5. Bang For Your Buxton

    Yep, Byron Buxton seems to have everything you'd hope for in a top pick. Now he just needs to turn his elite tools into production on the professional stage – something the last high-profile prep outfielder drafted by the Twins has failed to do thus far.

    The comparisons to Aaron Hicks were ...

  6. Tuesday's Trip through the Minors

    by , 06-05-2012 at 11:08 PM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
    Don't look now but it looks like Francisco Liriano might have remembered how to pitch. His last two starts have looked much better than the horrendous pitcher that was on the mound at the beginning of the year. This might be jumping the gun a little since his last two outings came against two poor offenses, the Oakland A's and the Kansas City Royals.

    The Twins offense couldn't back the strong outing by Liriano because Bruce Chen shut them down at the plate. Jonathan Broxton made the ...
  7. 2012 Day-by-Day - June 5

    Hitter of the Day:
    Rene Rivera - C - ROC - AAA: 3-3 HR (3), 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB

    Pitcher of the Day:
    Francisco Liriano: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO. Back-to-back impressive outings. They were against Oakland and Kansas City. Give me 2-3 more starts like this and I'll start to believe. He's always shown the flash, it's the consistency that needs to be there. Good 2 games though!

  8. Twins Add Two More Arms

    by , 06-05-2012 at 02:17 PM
    The Twins added another right-handed pitcher from Rice in the 5th round - Tyler Duffey. Duffey currently shares the closer distinction with 2nd round pick J.T. Chargois. While Chargois was the higher-rated prospect, Duffey had the better numbers. Duffey, however, is not the power-pitcher that Chargois is, but will probably be given a chance to start given his ability to throw a low-90s fastball, a slider and a change-up. If the change-up doesn't come around, he'll be shifted back to the bullpen; ...

However I do like the Brett-Walker pick, he has a lot of power. Passing on Brown, Lovegrove, and Buttrey could come back to bite us although they may all 3 go to college. 10. Twins Add Bullpen Arms (and a Bat)

    by , 06-05-2012 at 01:02 PM
    The second round opened with the Twins selecting LHRP Mason Melotakis out of Northwestern State. Unlike Bard before him, who will get a chance to be a starter, Melotakis will most likely start in the bullpen. He sold himself with an excellent performance in the Cape Cod League. Melotakis is a mid-90s power arm that will probably pitch some rookie-ball innings and then join the Beloit bullpen this summer.

    Nine picks later (and with Mitchell Brown still available!), the Twins took ...

  12. Monday Night in the Minors (including Kyle Gibson Update)

    by , 06-05-2012 at 10:03 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
    As important as Monday was to the Twins organization because of the draft, there was another reason it was important. Kyle Gibson threw off of a mound for the first time since having Tommy John surgery. In a text message, he said that it "went really good!" He added that his "arm felt great!" For Gibson, it was another milestone passed on the way to getting back into some games later this summer!

    Ben Revere and Jamey Carroll each had three hits. Josh Willingham hit his 11th homer. Justin ...

  14. Twins go with Buxton over Appel

    Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    When the Houston Astros made a surprise selection of Carlos Correa with the first pick of the 2012 MLB Draft, the Twins were left with a decision of picking between high school outfielder Byron Buxton and college pitcher Mark Appel. Before the draft started on Monday night, it seemed that Appel was going to be a sure ...
