I can’t imagine that there is a worse starting rotation in Major League Baseball than the Minnesota Twins. It was really bad last year. They added only Jason Marquis in the offseason. Scott Baker had elbow surgery that turned into Tommy John surgery. Francisco Liriano, who teased in spring training, has been so bad that he’s having a skipped start after just four starts. The Twins starting staff has an ERA over seven right now. Understandably, the thing we hear from most Twins fans ...

Twins lose another heartbreaker. Leave 13 men on base, struggle to get that one important hit with guys on base late in the game. As I was watching, and hoping for a comeback, I tempered my expectations for the team. Normally I'll think to myself "If we can pull this win off, we could start a serious run here." Unfortunately, this year, I struggle to see how this team can win 5 in a row or 9 of 10. Not saying they won't have winning streaks of anything past 2 (season long for 2012), but ...

The Twins and Red Sox are battling in a suddenly-close game in the late innings of the final game of what has been an immensely frustrating series for the Twins and their fans. Which is another good reason to follow the Twins minor league games. There’s always plenty of positive to be taken from the games, even if three of the four Twins affiliates lost. Here is a look at the Twins minor league scores and highlights from Wednesday: ROCHESTER 5, SYRACUSE 10 ...
Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ---- This is the first version of the 'who is NOT hot in the Twins' minors' series for 2012. I have been doing the Who is hot in the Minors series for a few years now and I decided that a complimentary list might be in order. I will be updating those every month or so, as well. The current who IS hot list can be found here Without further ado, here is the list, going from AAA to A. The clubs represented are AAA ...
Regarding the discussion of whom to pick with the #2 choice in the upcoming draft, there is also the group of supplemental picks the Twins will get. Even if the team believes pitching is their sorest need, it's one reasonable strategy to pick a stud position player at #2 and then load up with pitching prospects a little further down in the draft, if you think pitchers are inherently riskier to develop. However, those supplemental draft picks aren't quite the slam-dunk that some people were thinking ...
When a team loses the blame game starts up. Bill Smith, Terry Ryan, Gardy, the Minor League managers, Vavra, Anderson, Big Fella, Sid, or whoever. In the end the buck does stop with the owner, they have the ultimate power to make changes to the direction and the culture. So I do expect a more focused discussion on the Pohlad family and their stewardship of the Twins to come up. So instead of just throwing cr#p on the wall and seeing what gets a reaction my challenge to people is who ...
Chris Herrmann celebrates his first inning home run. Mauer's 2013 backup??? [Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar] Unlike their parent club, the New Britain Rock Cats put up a fight after the odds were stacked ...
Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For the second season in a row, the Twins have taken a player who had previously served as a starter and given him a prominent role in the bullpen. Last year the Twins were very pleased with the performance of Glen Perkins as he developed into their most reliable arm in the bullpen. In a lot of tough situations, Ron Gardenhire ...
The Twins were pretty well dominated by the Red Sox on Tuesday night, losing 11-2. Nick Blackburn was crushed. Matt Maloney was crushed. The offense didn’t come through. There was even some bad defense. Its’ a good thing that there are plenty of positive things going on in the Twins farm system to give us positive stuff to talk about! Here is a look at the Twins minor league scores and highlights from Tuesday: ROCHESTER, SYRACUSE The Red Wings were rained out on ...
The Twins have played 18 games this year, and Joe Mauer has been in the starting lineup for every single one. That's right – you might not have noticed, but the embattled catcher has not taken a day off this season after missing half of the 2011 campaign due to various ailments. This is the longest Mauer has even gone into a season without stopping to rest, and it's not like the early schedule has been particularly forgiving, with only one day off and ...
It's late. I've worked both my jobs two days in a row, going on a 3rd. The Twins forgot to play tonight and thus my recap and commentary will be non-existent Minor League teams won all 3 of their games. Rochester got rained out. I'm going to switch back to posting a link to the Google Docs instead of "embedding" it in the blog post. Not sure who is reading this, if anyone, but I plan on updating this all season long, so if you read this and have a preference ...
After punishing spring training pitchers and promoting himself this offseason, Danny Valencia’s output in the regular season has left something to be desired. Coming off a down year in 2011 and made promises of rebounding and rededicating himself for this season. Rather than coming out the gates to a hot start, he now finds himself on the hot seat poised to lose starts. What has gone wrong for the Twins third baseman? In 2011, I attributed his ...
