  1. Game 13 - Automauerton

    by , 04-16-2013 at 11:19 PM
I'm ashamed to admit I used to complain about Joe Mauer five years ago. I was an impressionable baseball fan, and I think I allowed the tough dudes of sports bitchery to get too far inside my head.

I picture those men, the constant whiners, as if constantly huddled under bleachers and punching each others' arms to emphasize every point.

I think I'm older and wiser now, and I appreciate Joe Mauer a great deal. He's very good in his bad years, and a precision hitting machine ...

Everything was nice and fuzzy last Friday when the Twins had pulled off some nice wins and they had themselves near the top of the American League. Things have changed in the last week as the club got swept by the Kansas City Royals and the Twins are near the bottom of the AL Central.

It is still early in the year so there is plenty of things that could change. Joe Mauer wasn't hitting the ball very good for the first few games of the year but he has started to come around. Josh Willingham ...
  3. Anthony Swarzak could be key to the bullpen

by , 04-09-2013 at 06:43 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
When word came out following TwinsFest about the injury suffered by Anthony Swarzak, it had to be embarrassing. He suffered a fractured rib after wrestling with some teammates during the Twins annual fan festival. Swarzak would open the season on the DL and it was tough for him to watch the Twins fight the Tigers and the Orioles before he could get on the field.

Swarzak returned to the mound on Sunday and got four big outs for the Twins on their way to a second series win in a row ...
  4. Rounding Out the Bullpen

Glen Perkins delivers for the TwinsThe past two seasons have been filled with disappointment and negative outcomes, but one of the few resoundingly encouraging developments has been the emergence of Glen Perkins at the back end of the bullpen. After fizzling as a starter, Perkins made a supremely successful transition to relief duty and, after signing a contract extension last year, he's in position to provide the Twins with stability at the closer spot for years to come, as long as he can stay ...
  5. All-Time Twins Halloween Team

by , 10-31-2012 at 05:35 PM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
Halloween evening is here and baseball has come to an end.
Still there’s plenty to do with baseball thoughts in your head.
The Twins are off until the weather turns better.
So get out the candy and put on a sweater.
Little ghouls and goblins will come to your door.
But to them the hot stove talk is just a bore.
The new season will come in it's due time.
But for now you will have to settle for my little rhyme.
Let's look back at the creepiest Twins

  6. Glen Perkins set-up to be closer

    Spring Training - Game 1 - vs TB - 3/3/12-glen-perkins-minnesota-twins.jpg
For the first time since before the Joe Nathan era in Minnesota, the team will enter next season with a homegrown pitcher as the closer at the back-end of the bullpen. Glen Perkins exploded onto the scene in 2011 and he continued that success into 2012 by being a dominant relief man for the Twins. All of this came after he failed to be a starter and it looked like he might be out of the system for the Twins. Back in 2009, Perkins and his agent had the players ...
  7. Matt Capps and his looming option year

    Article: On Tone of Writing-matt-capps-minnesota-twins.jpg
In last night's loss to the New York Yankees, Matt Capps made his return to the field after missing almost the entire second half of the season. It was the first action for Capps after not appearing in a game since the middle of July. The season has been injury plagued for the 29-year old relief pitcher and his time with the Twins has been full of plenty of ups-and-downs. Fans seem to hold a grudge against Capps for his poor play in the last couple of years but ...

After Tuesday night's contest in Pittsburgh, the Twins have played roughly 40% of their regular season schedule and the team is currently under .500 by 14 games. Being at the bottom of the American League is a rough spot for any team and there can be plenty of fingers pointed as to why the Twins have gotten to this point. The offense has failed to score runs and the pitching staff has left plenty to be desired ...

    Wait for it...

    Are you ready, yet?

Don't adjust your monitor but the Twins just swept a two game series in Detroit. That's not a typo either.

Over the course of the two games, the Tigers were a little error prone with six mistakes and the Twins were able to capitalize for five unearned runs. It has been great to see Trevor Plouffe find some semblance of power with two home runs in recent ...
  10. Where will Liriano fit into the bullpen?

At the end of spring training, it seemed that Francisco Liriano was posed to have a strong start to the year. After pitching in the Dominican Winter League, Liriano had seemed to have it all together in spring training and he was ready to help the Twins forget about the headaches involved with the 2011 season. But ...
  11. The Tale of Two Starters

by , 04-20-2012 at 12:07 AM (Over the Baggy)
After the split series in New York - one in which the bullpen absorbed 70% of the innings in four games - the Minnesota Twins relievers head to Tampa feeling more taxed than the Dutch population.

    (Yeah, that’s right: tax humor.)

On Thursday, Anthony Swarzak, a rotation fill-in who is lobbying for a more permanent position, coaxed Ron Gardenhire out of the dugout once again prematurely, ending his night without getting out of the third inning.

    Swarzak, in his ...
  12. Friday Night Lights

    by , 04-13-2012 at 09:53 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins two-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night with a 4-1 loss at the hands of lefty Matt Harrison and the Texas Rangers. Anthony Swarzak gave up four runs in seven innings. He was seeing-eye-singled to death in the 4th when the Rangers started swinging at Swarzak’s first pitch and scored three times. Ian Kinsler added a little insurance with a solo home in the 7th. For the first time this season, the Twins scored first in this game. Josh Willingham scored on a screaming liner ...
  13. "Opening Day is One Week Away" Roster Projections

    by , 03-30-2012 at 07:19 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
It's hard to believe, but after a long 2011 season and a very long offseason, Opening Day is just one week away for the Twins and the rest of baseball (except the A's and Mariners, I guess.). I have been doing these weekly roster projections for for weeks, and it's a lot of fun. As much as we like to think our roster projections a month out look pretty solid, it's impossible to know. No one could have predicted that Chris Parmelee would perform so well. And who knew with the bullpen.

  14. Replacements could fill back end of the rotation

by , 03-29-2012 at 07:06 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)

The Twins went into the start of this spring with a little different feel in regards to their starting rotation. Last season there was a battle between six or seven players to fill the five roles needed to complete the starting rotation at the beginning of the year. This year the Twins seemed set with five players penciled in to occupy the rotation when the team would break camp ...
