Yes, I heard the postgame show which pointed out the Twins were above .500 for the first time since 2010. I have seen the positive comments about the starting pitchers and their success so far this season. I do believe this team is improved and I think they are due for better luck after two disastrous seasons where any luck they had was bad luck. This is a club that will be hard-pressed to exceed 70 wins without more than one positive surprise. Three full games have yielded 17 ...
Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! I went to Target this afternoon. That alone is exciting enough for a new post, but there's more! I was going to get bread and milk for my family. I also needed to buy some pens, which happen to be on the opposite end of the store. There's still more. After procuring my pens, I went down an unmanned checkout aisle to get a soda pop. I wanted a Diet Dr. Pepper. Farther down that aisle were the baseball cards. I thought to myself "oh ...

For the first time since before the Joe Nathan era in Minnesota, the team will enter next season with a homegrown pitcher as the closer at the back-end of the bullpen. Glen Perkins exploded onto the scene in 2011 and he continued that success into 2012 by being a dominant relief man for the Twins. All of this came after he failed to be a starter and it looked like he might be out of the system for the Twins. Back in 2009, Perkins and his agent had the players ...
The end of the 2012 season is closely approaching and this leaves time to reflect back on the season when the hometown team isn't going to be in the playoffs. For the Twins, 2012 was another season to forget but there were some bright spots amidst all of the dullness of the past few months. Some of the brightest stars for 2012 came from the crop of free agents the Twins signed during last winter. These players might not have turned the team around from the dismal 2011 campaign but there were some ...
In last night's loss to the New York Yankees, Matt Capps made his return to the field after missing almost the entire second half of the season. It was the first action for Capps after not appearing in a game since the middle of July. The season has been injury plagued for the 29-year old relief pitcher and his time with the Twins has been full of plenty of ups-and-downs. Fans seem to hold a grudge against Capps for his poor play in the last couple of years but ...
My usual edition of "Friday Links-N-Thinks" had to be pushed back because of some other commitments. Since I am in the process of moving back to North Dakota after two years in the Cities, it has been a crazy couple of weeks of packing boxes and moving furniture. Remember to keep checking in as I will continue to post about the Twins in the midst of moving back to my home state. My regular schedule just might need to switch itself up a little bit in depending on when I have internet access and when ...
Liam Hendriks was again unable to pick up his first career win. Despite being given a five run lead going into the bottom of the 5th against the Tigers, he was unable to get an out. However, the Twins bullpen did what they’ve done all year. Anthony Swarzak came in and maintained the lead. Alex Burnett was tremendous again. And Glen Perkins got the save. All the efforts gave manager Ron Gardenhire his 900th career win. Quite an accomplishment! The Twins have now won four in a row and play the Tigers ...
The Twins needed 15 innings and six relievers to work nine scoreless innings, but a Denard Span two-out single gave the Twins a 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. The hit was Denard Span’s fourth of the game. Jamey Carroll also had four hits to raise his batting average to .259. Joe Mauer was 3-4 but had to leave the game after an RBI single tied the game at four in the 7th inning. He cleared his hamstring able to play before the game, but after a collision with Rickie Weeks at home, he was clearly ...
Don't look now but it looks like Francisco Liriano might have remembered how to pitch. His last two starts have looked much better than the horrendous pitcher that was on the mound at the beginning of the year. This might be jumping the gun a little since his last two outings came against two poor offenses, the Oakland A's and the Kansas City Royals. The Twins offense couldn't back the strong outing by Liriano because Bruce Chen shut them down at the plate. Jonathan Broxton made the ...
Jaynesville, WI - The Twins were in Cleveland on Saturday night and won 7-4. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning thanks to RBI singles by Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Trevor Plouffe. Cleveland clawed back with single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth to tie the game. However, Plouffe’s sixth home run of the season made it 5-4 after six, and Mauer’s third home run, a two-run shot, gave the Twins their 7-4. PJ Walters started and his string of quality starts came to an end. He ...
The Twins lost 6-2 on Sunday afternoon to the Rays meaning they were 3-4 on the road trip. Francisco Liriano had his fourth straight Lirianic start. It wasn’t pretty. Josh Willingham’s hitting streak came to an end. All-in-all, it appears that it would be a great time for the team to head back to home, to Target Field, for a series against the scuffling Boston Red Sox. Of course, they will get to face Jon Lester, Josh Beckett and Clay Buchholz, so it isn’t as though it gets easy. Here ...
The Twins improved to 5-9 with a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Denard Span, Jamey Carroll and Joe Mauer each had two hits, but it was again Josh Willingham who played hero in this game. With the Twins down 4-2 in the 7th, the bases were loaded with two outs and Willingham came to the plate. With two strikes, Willingham drilled a opposite-field doubles to drive in three and give the Twins the lead. It extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Matt Maloney, Jared Burton, Brian ...

As Nick wrote yesterday, as the M&M Boys go, so go the Twins. On Monday night in the Bronx, Joe Mauer went 3-4 with a walk, two doubles and a stolen base. Justin Morneau had two hits, including a long home run. Jamey Carroll and Ryan Doumit also had multi-hit games in a game in which all nine Twins starters had at least one hit. Carl Pavano had a rought first inning, but was able to turn things around and give up just three runs in seven innings. Brian Duensing and Matt Capps each threw a scoreless ...
The Twins two-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night with a 4-1 loss at the hands of lefty Matt Harrison and the Texas Rangers. Anthony Swarzak gave up four runs in seven innings. He was seeing-eye-singled to death in the 4th when the Rangers started swinging at Swarzak’s first pitch and scored three times. Ian Kinsler added a little insurance with a solo home in the 7th. For the first time this season, the Twins scored first in this game. Josh Willingham scored on a screaming liner ...
