After an offensive explosion on Monday night, the Twins made things a little bit more interesting on Tuesday when they didn't take their first lead in the game until the seventh inning. This comeback was spurred on by four two out hits with Ben Revere and Joe Mauer knocking in the runs to make the difference in the 6-4 final score. The Twins had another off day on Monday, following the long Father’s Day afternoon at Target Field on Sunday. On Monday afternoon, the team flew to Pittsburgh where they will play three inter-league games against the Pirates before heading to Cincinnati for three games against the Reds. In the minor leagues, Monday was the first game for the GCL Twins and Tuesday will be the first game for Elizabethton. The Twins found themselves in quite the battle at Target Field on Tuesday night with the Phillies in town for some interleague action. There was plenty of offense for both clubs as the Twins scored runs in four of the first five innings of the game. Early home runs were hit by Denard Span and Trevor Plouffe to help the Twins get the lead but it was hardly over from that point. The Twins lost again, this time to the Tigers. They scored six runs on ten hits which should be enough most of the time. Unfortunately, Anthony Swarzak wasn’t feeling well and it showed. He gave up six runs and didn’t get through the fourth inning. Francisco Liriano gave up four more runs without completing three innings. The Twins fell behind early and were not able to catch up despite two solo home runs by catcher Ryan Doumit. That was pretty much it for the Twins offense . Simply, there were very few positives to be found in the Twins’ 1-5 road trip to the west coast. (To be fair, even in good years the Twins haven’t done well on west coast trips.)
