  1. Draft Board v.3.0 (4/20)

    by , 04-20-2013 at 10:04 PM
The draft is now only six weeks away. Some things are starting to come into focus; other things are as cloudy as ever.

A quick reminder: The Twins first pick (fourth overall) has a draft slot value of just around $4.5 million.

The strategy that the Twins select the Best Player Available early in the draft remains true. The Twins will follow that strategy yet again this year.

Though it should be pointed out – as I do each month – that the Twins very rarely ...

  2. Early 2013 MLB Draft Preview

by , 03-20-2013 at 06:57 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
One of the biggest bonuses of having back-to-back horrible seasons is the fact the Twins will get some high draft picks to restock their farm system. With the second pick in last year's draft, the organization selected Byron Buxton, a toolsy high school outfielder from Georgia. He was widely considered the best player available and the Twins were happy to get him.

It is less than three months away from the 2013 MLB Draft and there are plenty of players for the Twins to discuss. The ...

It is way to early to start thinking about the MLB draft, especially with real, meaningful baseball being played. But it probably does not hurt to start familiarizing ourselves with some of the names that might be floating around the top of the pre-draft rankings. If the draft was to start today, the Twins would find themselves with the third overall selection. Here are the first 6 of 11 potential first round draft picks

  4. Twins go with Buxton over Appel

When the Houston Astros made a surprise selection of Carlos Correa with the first pick of the 2012 MLB Draft, the Twins were left with a decision of picking between high school outfielder Byron Buxton and college pitcher Mark Appel. Before the draft started on Monday night, it seemed that Appel was going to be a sure ...
  5. DRAFT DAY: Twins Myth #3448: Outfield Depth

    by , 06-04-2012 at 10:02 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Tonight at 6:00 central time, the MLB Draft will commence. We have heard now that the Astros will select Stanford right-hander and Houston native Mark Appel. That means that the Minnesota Twins will have their pick of every other eligible player.

I have freely said that I will not be at all disappointed if the Twins take a college pitcher like Kyle Zimmer or Kevin Gausman, the college catcher Mike Zunino or high school bats like OF Byron Buxton or IF Carlos Correa. In fact, although ...

A little after 6 p.m. CT on Monday night, the Minnesota Twins will be making a franchise altering pick when the scouting staff and the front office will decide on the number two pick in the 2012 MLB Draft. On the heels of a disappointing 2011 season, the Twins earned the second pick in the first round based on the fact that the team ...

I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Memorial Day weekend. It is great to start the week off on a Tuesday and it will only make the rest of the week go that much faster. Since I work in the local school system, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel that is the school year.

As has become a weekly happening around here, I will post a few tidbits in the morning to hold readers over until I write the minor ...
  8. Draft a College Pitcher? Are you sure?

    by , 04-26-2012 at 05:56 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
I can’t imagine that there is a worse starting rotation in Major League Baseball than the Minnesota Twins. It was really bad last year. They added only Jason Marquis in the offseason. Scott Baker had elbow surgery that turned into Tommy John surgery. Francisco Liriano, who teased in spring training, has been so bad that he’s having a skipped start after just four starts. The Twins starting staff has an ERA over seven right now.

Understandably, the thing we hear from most Twins fans ...

There are less than two months left until the MLB Draft and this means clubs are starting to get a picture of who the top prospects are going to be when it comes to selection time. Many of the top baseball writing sites have started to put together their initial lists of who are the best players available ...
