  1. Draft Board v.3.0 (4/20)

    by , 04-20-2013 at 10:04 PM
The draft is now only six weeks away. Some things are starting to come into focus; other things are as cloudy as ever.

A quick reminder: The Twins first pick (fourth overall) has a draft slot value of just around $4.5 million.

The strategy that the Twins select the Best Player Available early in the draft remains true. The Twins will follow that strategy yet again this year.

Though it should be pointed out – as I do each month – that the Twins very rarely ...

  2. Early 2013 MLB Draft Profiles

This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com.

It is way to early to start thinking about the MLB draft, especially with real, meaningful baseball being played. But it probably does not hurt to start familiarizing ourselves with some of the names that might be floating around the top of the pre-draft rankings. If the draft was to start today, the Twins would find themselves with the third overall selection. Here are the first 6 of 11 potential first round draft picks

  3. Another year's draft: in 5 words or less!

by , 06-11-2012 at 11:00 AM (Peanuts from Heaven)
Apparently the first times around in posting this I had a nasty bit of formatting on the other blog, now that's fixed and complemented with a poll about Twins draftees all of which can still be enjoyed at our blogspot address, here's a taste of what you'll find there:

With the Twins more or less out of contention for this season (recent success not with standing), the attention of the Twins blog-o-sphere has been firmly fixed on the minor leagues and potential for future glory. There

  4. Looking Back at the 2002 Twins Draft

    by , 06-07-2012 at 06:34 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins and the rest of MLB just completed their 2012 draft. The Twins made 43 picks, six of them in the top 100. I know many expect a lot of first round picks, but also of Top 10 picks. It’s understandable, but I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the Twins 2002 draft. Obviously the Twins didn’t sign all 50 draft choices. Some went to college and were drafted later. I still think it’s good to look at those players because it is a direct reflection on the Twins scouting. I think it’s ...
  5. College draft prospect weekly recap...

    by , 02-28-2012 at 11:45 AM
This will be the debut post in what I hope to be a weekly column updating the performances and scouting reports on prospects I believe are/should be on the Twins radar. I hope to have a high school round up posted later this week, but for now let’s start with the college prospects.

    Stats from Feb. 17th-26th

Mark Appel has dominated much of the Twins draft coverage so far this winter and rightfully so. In his most recent start, he turned in possibly his best career performance ...
  6. Keith Law's Top 50 and his thoughts on potential Twins Draft picks...

    by , 02-23-2012 at 03:06 PM
Keith Law of ESPN Scouts Inc. came out with the first edition of his Top 50 (Insider required) draft prospects, and had an interesting take that differed from just about every other site I have seen. The top player on his board was Georgia High School OF Byron Buxton, who I reviewed here, saying he has the “potential for five above-average or plus tools” and also echoing the comparisons to the Upton brothers I have heard elsewhere. Buxton does defiantly fit the Twins preferred draft mold as an athletic, ...
  7. Twins Draft History

    by , 02-23-2012 at 07:02 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Over the next several months, Twins fans are going to hear a lot about the June MLB draft, and for good reason. The Twins have the #2 overall pick and five picks in the Top 100. Coming off of a 99 loss season, and having a middle-of-the-pack minor league system, it is important to take advantage of the draft. In coming months, you’ll read names like Mark Appel, Lucas Giolito, Devin Marrero, Byron Buxton and Mike Zunino frequently. Today I wanted to look at the draft a little differently.
