  1. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

by , 05-17-2013 at 06:38 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
It wasn't the best week for the Twins as the team lost the rubber game of their three game set with the Orioles on Sunday. This was followed by losing two out of three games to the dreaded White Sox.

Even with the poor play, Joe Mauer continues to be one of the best hitters in the game (.519/.594/.704 in the last 7 days). Aaron Hicks showed off all of his skills in one game to help the team to their only win of the week. It wasn't all bad for Justin Morneau either as he hit over .460 ...
  2. Down on the Farm: A no-hitter and lots of hot sluggers

by , 04-07-2013 at 05:35 PM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
There have been two series so far for the Twins and each one has produced the same result, a Twins win. Minnesota is tied with the Chicago White Sox for first place in the Central Division. It is very early in the season but the Twins are finding ways to keep games close and to come out victorious.

Aaron Hicks isn't in the minor leagues any more and there were some struggles in his first week in the majors. He did knock in the go-ahead run for the Twins in Sunday's game. It was a big ...

    Spring Training - Game 1 - vs TB - 3/3/12-trevor-bauer-arizona-diamondbacks.jpg
It's no secret that the Twins are looking for starting pitching this offseason. The free agent market looks like it is filled with plenty of intriguing arms but there could be other ways of acquiring hurlers. Another way of accomplishing this task could be to trade away current MLB players or minor league prospects for the services of a starting pitcher. There have been rumors of the Twins inquiring about a couple of different starting pitchers but a new name has ...

by , 10-30-2012 at 06:50 AM (North Dakota Twins Fan)
There were a couple of preliminary top prospect lists for the Twins released over the last couple of days. On Sunday night, Seth Stohs from TwinsDaily.com released his primary list of the top 50 prospects for the Twins organization. It's a pretty extensive list and you should check it out after you have perused the list below. John Sickels from MinorLeagueBall.com released his preliminary top 20 list for the farm system for the Twins. Both of these men have a ton of knowledge about the system for ...
  5. Tuesday Minor League Scoreboard

    by , 08-22-2012 at 06:36 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Brett Andersen made his first start in just over a year since he had Tommy John surgery, and the lefty was back in fine form. He gave up just one run on four hits and no walks in seven innings. Sean Doolittle pitched a perfect eighth. Then former Twins reliever Grant Balfour recorded his 12th save with a perfect ninth. In other words, the Twins offense just did not show up. Trevor Plouffe was again 0-4 and is now 2-29 in eight games since his return from the DL. Jamey Carroll was 0-3, and he now ...
  6. Monday in the Minors

    by , 08-21-2012 at 03:09 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins got big offense from their nine through four hitters and came away with a nice 7-1 win over the Oakland A’s, one of baseball’s hottest teams. Of course, the biggest story was the performance of Brian Duensing. The lefty gave up two runs (1 earned) in six innings. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out seven. Quite the improvement over his mid-July start against the A’s when he gave up six runs on seven hits (3 HR) in just two innings. Casey Fien pitched two scoreless innings in ...
  7. Minnesota Twins Top 20 Prospects in Review

    by , 08-14-2012 at 01:38 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
In my fourth annual Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook, which became available in January, I posted my Top 30 Twins Prospect list as well as my annual rankings back five or six years. I enjoy looking at those lists for a couple of reasons. First, it is humbling. No one will likely ever produce a top 10 list that is 100% accurate. Second, it’s a fun reminder of some of the names from the past that didn’t stick around or make it. Third, it’s just fun to review to see what I have learned since then. ...
  8. Monday Night in the Minors

    by , 07-23-2012 at 10:09 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
In what may have been his final start with the Twins, starter Francisco Liriano threw his first clunker in over two months. The lefty gave up home runs to Paul Konerko, Adam Dunn and Alex Rios and could not complete three innings. The Twins got plenty of base runners. Denard Span had three hits, and Brian Dozier had two. The Twins grounded into five double plays in the game though which ended several scoring opportunities. Brian Duensing and Alex Burnett were very good in relief. Ryan Doumit did ...
  9. Sunday Minor League Rundown

    by , 07-22-2012 at 09:58 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins got a great mound performance from Samuel Deduno who picked up his first MLB win, giving up just one run in 6.1 innings. He got plenty of run support on this day. Ryan Doumit was 3-4 hit two home runs, one from each side of the plate. He drove in four runs. Brian Dozier drove in two more runs with a double off the wall. The Twins bullpen struggled but hung on for a 7-5 win.

Here is a look at the Twins minor league scores and highlights from the Sunday games in the minor ...
  10. Friday Night Minor League Lights

    by , 07-21-2012 at 06:03 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins needed a couple of extra innings to earn a 2-1 win in Kansas City against the Royals. It was a terrific game for Darin Mastroianni who hit a solo homer and a triple. Josh Willingham drove in Joe Mauer in the 11th inning with what proved to be the winning run. The two teams will play at 6:00 central time on Saturday.

It was a good day for the organization. The teams went 5-2 on the day. Oswaldo Arcia had a huge game, yet it was very difficult to decide who should be the hitter ...
  11. Monday in the Minors

    by , 07-10-2012 at 12:33 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
Twins players scattered all over the place to enjoy their All Star breaks. Joe Mauer is the team’s lone representative in tonight’s All-Star game. On Monday night, it was the Tigers’ Prince Fielder who out-slugged Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista to win his second Home Run Derby. The Rochester Red Wings also began their All-Star break with no game on Monday. New Britain played an early afternoon game and with its completion, they are now on their All-Star break. Each of the other Twins affiliates played ...
  12. Friday Night Minor League Lights

    by , 07-07-2012 at 12:11 PM (SethSpeaks.net)
Francisco Liriano did a tremendous job on Friday night of building his trade value. The lefty gave up just one run in 6.2 innings against baseball’s best offense. Jared Burton got four outs quickly. The Twins got enough offense, as well as some help from the Rangers defense, to put up five runs. Joe Mauer drove in two runs, and Justin Morneau homered. The two teams play again on Saturday as Sam Deduno makes his first Twins start.
With that, here is a look at the Twins minor league scores ...
  13. Saturday's Good(rum) Game Notes and Highlights

    by , 07-01-2012 at 12:46 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins got some great pitching on Saturday and won both games of a split double-header against the Kansas City Royals. In the first game, the Twins won 7-2 and Scott Diamond worked eight innings for the Win. In the second game, it was Cole DeVries who was promoted and who recorded his second big league win with a terrific performance. Of course, he was immediately optioned back to Rochester following the game.

There was a lot going on in the Twins system on Saturday. I had the opportunity ...
  14. Sunday Game Notes

    by , 06-25-2012 at 10:50 AM (SethSpeaks.net)
The Twins had arguably their most exciting game of the season. In many ways, it was the 2012 positives that got it done. Trevor Plouffe hit a home run. Scott Diamond pitched great. And then the big blast off the bat of Josh Willingham that proved to be the game-winner. Of course, you can add to that an incredible plate appearance by Joe Mauer off of flame-throwing Aroldis Chapman to set up the Willingham homer. Jared Burton made it interesting but pitched out of a jam for the save. And now the ...
