It has been a season of streaks so far this year for Joe Mauer.

Things started well in the first couple weeks of the season. Through 14 games, he was hitting .393/.439/.574 with two home runs and five doubles. His batting average was high, he was hitting the ball out of the park and the Minnesota Twins were surprising the experts with their .500 record.

Over the next twelve games things were not quite so pretty for Mr. Mauer. ...

Welcome to 25 drafts in 25 days! Over the next few weeks, I will be writing brief recaps of the last 25 drafts in Twins' history. This will all culminate with the 2013 draft, when the Twins will select 4th overall. I know that the MLB draft isn't as hyped as the NBA or NFL draft, due to the age and experience of the players involved, but the draft is an important tool used to build a franchise, especially for the Twins. This coming draft is extremely important, as the Twins have the opportunity ...

Before coming home to face the Orioles for three games at home, Minnesota made a trip around the American League, faced three over .500 teams, and returned with a 5-5 record.

Upon greeting the Orioles for three games, they immediately decided to pitch three consecutive games of batting practice, allowing 23 runs over the weekend set.

Thankfully, the Orioles are gone and the Twins are set to welcome the Chicago White Sox to Target Field. The White Sox and their unbalanced attack of no-hitting, excellent pitching may be the needed ingredient for the Twins

Kyle Gibson is anxious to finally reach the big leagues, and he's currently making a strong case in Triple-A with a 3.32 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through seven starts. His most recent outing was his most impressive: a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts, two walks and four hits.

Gibson is on an innings limit this year and has already logged 40 innings in Rochester, increasing the urgency to call him up soon so he can spend time adjusting to the majors, thus preparing himself for a full, successful season in 2014. But space is limited in the Twins' rotation and Gibson is not the only one vying for a spot.

Three minor league affiliates played on Sunday. The two upper-level minor league affiliates played very good, close ball games. Ft. Myers had a day off. The game in Beloit on Sunday was just crazy. You’ll note the final score looks much more like a football score than a baseball score. That is all good news for the Kernels hitters. It certainly doesn’t speak well for the Kernels starters on this day. Consider this early preview… Kernels outfielders (JD Williams, Byron Buxton and Adam Walker combined to go 9-15 with four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 11 runs scored and 13 runs batted in. On Saturday, four Twins minor league affiliates played a total of five games. Two of them involved walk-offs. Another was won on a big home run in the eighth inning. There were three very good starts. Sam Deduno made his second start of the year and no fewer than four WBC competitors had very good games in the Twins' minor leagues on Saturday.

One of the Twins minor league games was postponed due to rain on Friday, but there were still five games to follow. The Kernels got two terrific starting performances and Trevor May was better than that (or, a-mays-ing?) in his start for the Rock Cats. Kennys Vargas had a couple big hits for the Miracle and Adam Walker remains red hot for Cedar Rapids.

Like a car engine struggling on an icy day, the Twins' lineup had a tough time revving up during the chilly month of April. Ambitious thoughts about the potential for an offensive core powered by numerous potent bats went wayward as the runs trickled in at a disappointing pace.

The Twins finished the season's first month ranking near the bottom of the league in OPS and runs scored. This, at least for me, was somewhat jarring, because from my standpoint they didn't appear to be overmatched. Hitters throughout the lineup were taking good at-bats, several key players were excelling and, most importantly, everyone was healthy. But overall the offensive unit just wasn't clicking.

On Saturday, May 4, Ryan Doumit, at .203, was not even hitting his weight. With a slugging percentage of .291 to boot, the Minnesota Twins’ switch-hitting catcher/DH was a few nights of binge eating hot wings from matching that number as well. As a regular guest of manager Ron Gardenhire’s vital fifth spot in the batting order, Doumit’s woes directly impacted the team’s offense. The offense had concluded April with just 92 runs scored – ahead of only the Chicago White Sox at 89.

Last year, while providing crucial support in the heart of the order, the vast majority of his plate appearances came from the left side of the plate. His total numbers are most buoyed when he succeeds ...

It's time for our monthly look into the Twins and members of the Twins organization that are on Twitter. Last month I added some of the staff and media associated with the minor league affiliates. This month there are several new players who have each added a Twitter account including Twins reliever Ryan Pressly and uber-prospect Miguel Sano. I've also now included the percent their Twitter following has increased since both last month and February. It's an interesting look.

As always, I encourage you to let me know if there are players or others who should be included. Of course, we encourage you to follow the Twins Daily writers as well. Help us catch up to Miracle pitching coach Ivan Arteaga. ...
