Could Ohtani UCL open the door for the Twins?

OK, so the obvious... or at least INITIAL knee jerk reaction is NO!!  BUT... lets take a deeper look at the affordability and the functionality of Ohtani on the Twins. First off the affordability.  Ohtani is incredibly affordable at ANY price. Ohtani is the unique player that almost pays for himself.  The increased revenue he brings to ANY team will offset a good chunk, if not all, of his salary.   Secondly the Twins can have some decent salaries coming of the books. Using 2022 salarie

Lewis Up to Replace Luplow (or Gallo)? Makes Sense for 2023 and Really Makes Sense For 2024

We need a CF for 2024 and a better RH hitting OF for 2023. I think our highest and best hope in 2024 should be that Buxton plays 80ish games in the OF next year and another 50 at DH. That means we will need another player to be a half to 2/3 time starting CF. I frankly think we have that guy in Max Kepler which would really open things up for OFs because it's easier to find corner OFs that a decent CF. Unfortunately, Kepler apparently doesn't want to play CF on any sort of regular basis. Maybe w

Understatement of the Year

Today on Power Alley (MLB Radio), the announcers were discussing the Twins-Brewers game tonight (Wed, Aug 23).  Corbin Burnes is the Milwaukee pitcher and he has been striking out batters at a very high rate  One announcer said that it would be an interesting matchup because: "The Twins have been a little prone to striking out lately." A little prone?  Lately?

Corn Crop in Cedar Rapids is looking good.

It was baseball road trip BONUS time this past weekend with buddies Steve-O & TJ as the Cedar Rapids Kernels wrapped up their series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday, August 20.   During our intitial road trip to Cedar Rapids at the end of June, one of our games was suspended due to rain after three innings.  Despite seeing the completion of said game the following day, followed by the regularly scheduled contest, we were told we could exchange the suspended game tickets for anot

Greatest Twins Individual Offensive Season Ever?

The Twins arrived in Minnesota in 1960, and I have been a close follower since about 1967.  As a kid, I was a huge Harmon Killebrew fan and attended many games where his home runs were the highlight of the day. I also got to see one of the great on-base hitting machines of that era, Rod Carew. They were far different players, but they produced, in my opinion, the two greatest offensive seasons in Twins history, and both were named American League MVP for them - Killebrew in 1969, and Carew in 19

Further envisioning of Twins youth movement

With Julien, Wallner and Lewis breathing life into a listless offense recently, I thought ahead to the possibilities of even more help from St. Paul and a much more robust offense with several high on base guys mixed with power and potential high batting averages. Here’s what I came up with. 2B Julien .OBP .386 CF Martin OBP .377 3B Lewis AVg. .343 OBP .380 SS Correa All World Defense and 15 HR now is best I can do C Jeffers Protection for Correa RF Wallner OBP .341

Carlos Correa and a runner on first

Carlos Correa has 51 plate appearances with a runner on first(only) and less than 2 outs. In those 51 plate appearances he has 9 strikeouts, 6 walks, 1 HBP, 1 double, 1 home run and hit into 15 double plays. The most frequent outcome is a double play. That isn't surprising as he hits right handed, frequently makes solid contact and isn't very fast. Those factors aren't going to change. It makes me wonder how often the Twins have tried to steal a base in those situations. I can't recall any.

Lewis Back Up to Replace Solano? Polanco to 1B?

Well, now what do we do with Solano spraining his knee? Hard to believe that's a day to day thing. By the way, "sprained knee" is often the diagnosis until the MRI shows a torn meniscus or ligament damage.  So what do we do? God help us if the answer is play Joey Gallo every day.  I say we we cut Lewis' rehab stint in AAA short and get him back up. Lewis plays 3d, Polanco goes to 1B most days, with Gallo there only occasionally. I can already hear the chorus of "move Julien to 1B, he stinks

How did you become a Twins fan?

WARNING: THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY PERSONAL AND INTENSE BLOG POST.  One thing I've always been interested in is history. It started with my dad when I was a kid growing up in the Macalester/Groveland area in St.Paul. My dad, who is the reason I'm the Twins fan I am today (thanks, dad!), loved baseball and history. As a lover of both, I wanted to share a little bit about how I became a Twins fan and I'd absolutely LOVE to have you guys all share and tell me how you became a fan. Did you gro
