Twins vs Tigers Opening SeriesIt's Opening Day!

In a rare Opening Day homestand, Target Field looks to be blustery and cold for the home opener as baseball begins anew in 2013.

Several questions linger from Spring Training... How will the Twins pitching staff hold up amidst several injuries? How will the new pick-ups Vance Worley, Kevin Correia, and Mike Pelfrey perform in this opening set against the reigning division champs?

Game one will pit trade acquisition Vance Worley against former Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.

Game two will see free agent acquisition Kevin Correia line up against Anibal Sanchez.

Game three has Tommy John recipient Mike Pelfrey square off against Rick Porcello.

      That was really special, Plouffe.

Yes, that's the strategy. Let the 8th-9th-10th place hitters in the line up go quietly, rope-a-dope style, and then let our leadoff guy Mauer come out swinging (or quite possibly walking) to start the 9th.

I would kept Plouffe home on that bunt play.

Joe Mauer's 6'5" frame working against him right there.

It looked like it was going to bounce into his chest and had the top spin to go under his legs (or it hit the plate and skipped instead of bounced).

Not a good play but I see how it happened.

Earlier I mentioned the music during introductions. Perhaps for the Twins it should've been "Keystone Kops."

      Butera would have stopped it.

I love Mauer... But stay down... Use your chest protector.

Benny Hill style Yakkity Sax would also work.

He would have... Most catchers wouldn't have stood up. That was very bad fundamentally.

Discuss: Rookie jitters for Jamie Hersch? Just cold? Or another Telly Hughes in the making?

That would require obtaining usage permission from the Astros.

No one can gargle a mouthful of stones quite like Telly.

Just finished saying to my wife how hard it must be to be a rookie with the spotlight on you and your teeth are chattering through everything you're supposed to say. I guess I went with pity initially.
