• Series Preview: Twins @ Royals, 4/8

Twins at Royals series previewYour first place Minnesota Twins.

It's not a term Twins fans have heard since October 2010 but coming into a three game set with the Kansas City Royals, that's exactly the position the surprising Twins are sitting after two series wins to open the season. Behind some solid pitching performances and timely hitting, the Twins enter their third series against division rivals Kansas City sitting atop the American League Central with a 4-2 record, tied for first place with the White Sox.

But not all has been going right for the young Twins team. Liam Hendriks looked much like his 2012 self against Baltimore, throwing a clunker against the Orioles and exiting the game after only 4 2/3 innings. Rookie centerfielder Aaron Hicks has also struggled, compiling only two hits in the first 26 ABs of his Major League career. The Twins look to get those two youngsters back on track early. With Scott Diamond throwing rehab in the minors and Sam Deduno not far behind him (and Rich Harden not far behind him), the team's patience with Hendriks could be limited and another stint in Rochester could be just around the corner if he doesn't begin to establish himself against the Royals. Hicks should receive a longer leash, as there are no good replacements available in the minors and backup centerfielder Darin Mastroianni has been battling a foot contusion in the past week and cannot play a full nine inning game.

Will do! Opening days are always the best, tailgates everywhere and everyone is in a good mood. Hope the twins can win this series as well, it would be nice to at least have hope this season for a month or two at least, and at the end of the day....if you keep winning you never know what can happen!

So what's up with the outfield? Willingham and Parmelee switching places? Or is that a typo?

My guess is that it's a typo.

They must have told Hicksie to swing at anything with two strikes.

Doumit: running bases with his head up is arse since circa forever.

Ugh! That was a buzz-kill. Was that Doumit's fault for not noticing that Morneau wasn't coming home?

I would have sent Morneau and make the Royals throw him out with 2 outs. That being said, Doumit can't "pull a Bruno" and just put your head down and run 'till someone tags you.

i'll forgive doumit for that one, given morneau's blazing speed.

I'm at work, how do you score one run on 4 hits?

Morneau didn't score from second on a single with two outs? Doumit assumed he would just score and advanced from 1st to third only to find Morneau still standing on the bag?

I was exercising and missed the first inning.

      One run, four hits.

I don't even want to know how that happened.

      Pretty much sums it up.

Does Mauer need glasses or something? This is getting a little ridiculous.

I wonder if the runner distracted Florimon there.

Was anybody else cringing just a little when Florimon took that pop-up?

I need some help as to why that wasn't an error. Clearly hit his glove. :P

Yeah...not impressed so far, at all. Not a tough play. On a positive note, Gardy assures us confidence is not an issue for Hicksie.
