• Series Preview: Twins vs. Rangers, 4/25

One might say this is the first real test of the Twins pitching staff. The Texas Rangers, co-owners of the American League's best record at 14-7, are coming to town and the weather is finally going to warm up in the Twin Cities. Until this point, the Twins have played nearly every game of the season in horrible weather, with game-time temperatures sitting in the 30s but over the weekend, we can expect several 60 degree game starts.

How will the Twins' pitching staff hold up against the potent Rangers offense? This series could be a test of whether the Twins, sitting at 9-8 and just half a game out of first place in the American League Central, are marginal contenders in a weak division or pretenders who have received more than their fair share of luck early in the season, going 5-0 in one run games thus far in 2013.

One glimmer of hope for the Twins is that they're sending some of their best pitchers to the mound in the series: Kevin Correia, de facto 2013 ace, Vance Worley, coming off a solid start against the White Sox, and Scott Diamond, de facto 2012 ace. No matter how you look at it, this should be a tough series for the Twins.

If the Twins are going to win this game, they need the bottom of the lineup to produce against Nathan. To me, that is going to determine how successful the season will be.

Oh yeah, Morneau leads off--why am I not excited about that?

It takes two bench slots to cover for questionable talents at SS, but I like this aspect of the roster. Wilkin contributed and now Eduardo finishes the game. Works for me.

How about a really cheap win for Fien?

I am inclined to agree with that based on what we have seen so far this season.

Fien in to face the righty. Gardy wants to pull this game out if they can.

Could be cheaper than you intended, if that's how it plays out in the bottom of the 9th.

Yup, though I'm good with either. Some Fox kook had Ogie moving up into the low teens. Don't know about that, but he's a good value for a 25th pick, especially in a position of need.

Edit. Whaaaa? We picked already? ESPN page is behind. Guess I'll read up on X man. We certainly needed help at corner, even before Winnie departed.

Morneau will be over aggressive and try to tie it, and pop out. Watch for him falling backwards on his swings instead of stepping at the pitcher, too.
