I thought Aaron's take on the payroll question was excellent where Ryan points to the A's and Rays as teams that win without low payroll but then the Twins don't really do anything they do.

I agree with Ryan when he says basically that the Twins don't, won't and shouldn't just copy what other teams are doing. There is more than one way to build an organization.

I liked how Aaron clarified the bit too by saying that the Rays and A's are winning in spite of the low payroll, not because of the low payroll.

I agree with Ryan that it isn't the payroll that determines an organization's success. It's how that money is allocated. Hopefully they find a good way to allocate their money this year.

John's right--"out of touch" is an apt way to describe the Terry Ryan interview. He just seemed so dismissive of views of the Twins fanbase and unaware of the perceptions of the front office. It's frustrating when I have such high regard for the opinions of the bloggers and commenters here to see him just shrug those outside opinions off.

I felt the same way and couldn't think of how to word it! Thanks for taking the words out of my mouth!

Absolutely, but does quoting the success of low payroll teams as support for not spending make sense when you have nothing in common with them?
