Minnesota Twins News & Rumors Forum
  • Scott Erickson AND Meltdown Tickets!

Iíve got great news and really great news. Which is which depends on whether you already have a ticket for the Twins Daily Winter Meltdown or not.

Weíve added a third speaker: Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Erickson. In his second year in the majors, Erickson won 20 games and a World Series Championship which included starting the memorable Game 6 which Kirby Puckett won with a home run. Erickson pitched fifteen years in the majors, won 142 games and married Lisa Guerrero. So his life has turned out quite a bit better than yours, most likely. Hopefully, in addition to talking about pitching for the Twins, heíll share some life secrets.

But the next news is even bigger, because until now only 200 of you could come to the Meltdown. Not any more. Masons has agreed to shut down the entire restaurant for the event, which means we will begin selling more tickets at 8AM on Thursday morning. I donít know how many just yet, but it will be more than a handful and could be as many as 100.

You will be able to purchase them for $20 each by clicking on this link. But remember, we had a lot more to sell last time and the entire batch sold out in four hours, resulting in a lot of disappointed fans, and we had a lot more available.

The event is January 25th at Masonís Bar and Grill from 5:00 to 8:00. Itís just two blocks from TwinsFest. An advanced ticket gets you two craft brews, a Twins Daily Winter Meltdown Pint Glass, lots of baseball talk, and presentations from Minnesota President Dave St. Peter, Scott Erickson and Pelotero filmmaker Jon Paley. Plus we have some stuff we havenít unveiled yet. You can find more information here. Weíll see you at the Meltdown!

Erickson pitched the first Twins No Hitter in the Metrodome in 1994 and is one of only 7 no-hitters for the Twins' franchise (including the Senators; 5 for the Minnesota years) so he is a pretty significant guy that way too A lot of people remember Morris in 1991, but Erickson was the Twins' best pitcher that season and was second in the Cy Young vote after Clemens. Also Erickson was one of the first trades that Terry Ryan did (to Baltimore for Scott Klingenbeck & Kimera Bartee at age 27 in 1995.) Fully great guy to hear talk.

The beer dabbler is going to be awesome too. I'm kind of jealous that you get to go to that.

I'm even more glad that I get to go to the Meltdown though. This is going to be awesome.

Here's Erickson (and Mark Rosen) reacting to his no-hitter:

He ran into arm problems that year. He was 15-3 with a 2.36 ERA but then went 5-5 the rest of the way. I remember he was really nursing that arm along after July. Too bad or he was a shoe in for the Cy Young. From late August of 1990 to late July of 1991 he was definitely the best pitcher in baseball. Personally, I don't think he ever really recovered from those elbow issues though he did have some decent years later.

Lisa Guerrero. Huminah, huminah. Who would you most like to trade with? Scott Erickson or Erik Decker? Chicks dig the athletes.

I remember following that 91 season very closely as a young boy. I would go to the park and throw with my friends and imitate the Scott Erickson wind up. I had no idea how to throw a slider so at least I didn't ruin my elbow! Those were the days when the Twins could actually pitch and play defense. Whatever happened to those basic fundamentals? I cannot remember a single time last season when the Twins played small ball and manufactured a run. Gardy always plays for the big inning.

I am so disappointed that I will be unable to attend what will certainly be an outstanding event. Please, someone tell Scott Erickson that I love him.
