  • Twins vs White Sox, 07-24-2012, 7:10pm

Francisco Liriano had a disappointing night against the Sox last night, giving up seven runs before getting the hook in the third inning. It could deal quite a blow to the front office's trade expectations from the player but thankfully, Liriano will be able to make one more redemption start before the trade deadline is over, should teams need reassurance.

Tonight, Cole De Vries looks to build on his recent success against the Orioles. Countering him, the White Sox will send out lefty Jose Quintan, who has helped power the Sox to first place in the AL Central over the past two months.

What do you expect from De Vries tonight? Will he be able to contain the White Sox in the bandbox that is US Cellular? How much did Liriano hurt his trade value with last night's start? As always, join the Twins Daily discussion below and talk about it!

True, but then that's not why we got him. I see him as a bridge for a couple of years until some of the talent in the minors [insert derisive laugh here] is ready.

When we found out that Hammer would not adjust to RF, we learned all we needed to know about his defense. Yes, reports were that Revere played better in RF than LF for whatever reason, we really have two DHs/spot backups on this team... a far cry from the so-called Twins way... but that hasn't been the way of things in some years now.

Willingham's defense isn't the reason they lost tonight, and isn't the reason they're a million games under .500.

Corner OF defense just isn't worth losing any sleep over.

Never claimed either were the case. There are much bigger problems but this is a problem worth addressing. We can walk and chew gum and play good defense at the same time.

      How, exactly?

Having Willingham DH. Sorry if that was not clear.

I think that just creates a logjam on a team where Mauer only catches 50% of the time, and you have Doumit and Morneau.

I don't think Willingham in left hurts you much in the long run.

I would use RF as the rotating position. If we keep Span, then put Revere in LF full time and have Mauer in RF when not catching (rather than using him at 1st and DH). Then Doumit would be catching with Hammer at DH. Depending on match ups you use Doumit/Hammer/Parmelee in RF when Mauer is catching (until FA pickup or young player is ready to play RF).

At least you didn't see it live, two nights in a row, surrounded by White Sox fans. And to the bitter end each night.

I don't know. Will it be worse, record wise, than last? Depends on what we do trade wise, but I'm all but totally disinterested at this point.

That's an unenviable situation in a loss, but oh so rosy when/if the Twins win, no?

Huh? Where do you come up with this stuff? Just saying starting pitching has been the hot button issue all season and it's a damn shame that we've had a few quality starts lately and found other ways to lose games. We remain very much sellers in my mind, if I need to categorically state that.

Yikes. I stopped watching when it was 4-2 Twins and last checked in when it was tied 4-4.

      What a terrible game.

I'm mocking the current around here that being a realist makes you a hopelessly oppressive pessimist. Instead, I guess we should all be naively optimistic about what a great team we have. Nothing with you personally, just a good setup you provided.
