One of the topics being ardently discussed by the Twins fan base these days is the status of Kyle Gibson and his recovery from Tommy John surgery. As a part of that discussion much has been made of the 130-inning limit to which Gibson is being held – indeed, it has become for some the focus of the discussion. If Gibson has only so many innings before he is shut down this year, then doesn’t it make sense to have him “spend” those innings with the parent club, getting MLB experience in preparation for next year? Indeed, there are few topics which evoke as much passion now than how the front office is handling Gibson’s recovery. ...

Following the sweep of the Chicago White Sox, the talk around Minnesota water coolers has been whether or not the Minnesota Twins will be buyers or sellers on the July 31st trade deadline. The Twins are currently 33-36 and are entering a stretch of games that could bring them to or over .500 when the trade deadline approaches. With that in mind, does it make sense for the Twins to become buyers if they continue to play well and are firmly in contention as the trade deadline approaches? In ...

This afternoon, the Twins Gulf Coast League team will be playing its first game of the season. As is typical, this is a group with players from all around the world. It is a group of players from the Dominican, Venezuela, Germany, Taiwan, and Australia getting an opportunity. There are several players on this roster who have spent time in the Dominican Summer League. There are young players drafted the last year or two. There are some college picks who are more raw and there just isn’t room for on the Elizabethton roster. It is a mixed bag that manager Ramon Borrego will work with. ...

The Minnesota Twins have surprised quite a few people this year and should feel pretty good about themselves. After sweeping the White Sox at home, the Twins are firmly in fourth place in a lackluster AL Central as they look to take on the second place Indians in a three game set at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

The offense and pitching performances have been coming from unlikely spots on the Twins roster, with Brian Dozier leading the way. Dozier has posted an impressive .912 OPS over the past 28 days and has hit four of his five home runs during

There has been a lot of talk about trading the Twins established MLB players for prospects in recent weeks. This concept has become a bit more complicated due to the Twins' relative success this season. A terrible team is an easy seller while a great team is an eager buyer. The Twins are neither great nor terrible. The difficulty for the Twins' front office will be determining who is a part of the future and who is expendable.

I don't intend to try to make that determination. I'll leave ...

The Twins put together a solid series against the White Sox to earn a three-game sweep. The rival Sox are plummeting in the AL Central; it is still nice to beat a hated foe. Powerful offensive performances and some decent pitching helped the club in the series. Now it is time to see what the team can do when they hit the road for a couple series.

Some other Twins headlines from this week included: Justin Morneau finally ended the longest home run drought of his career, Kevin Corriea put together a couple solid starts, and Sam Deduno (prior to ...

Holding a Handful of Water (Twins 7 White Sox 5 – Game 66)

As a kid, I used to fill my cupped palm with water to see how long I could hold onto it. No matter how steady I held my hand, the water always slipped away. I grew up Iowa. We made our own fun and we liked it.

As an adult Twins fan, the feeling returns. Game after game I see the Minnesota team find a big inning – like their four run first inning – and then slowly let it slide through their fingers.

This is the 4th story in "Those Damn Yankees" series, stories about Twins-Yankees rivalry by some of our favorite Twins Daily writers, leading up to the Bombers visit July 1st to the 4th.

    Chuck Knoblauch.

The name alone can bring up a wide-range of feelings for Twins fans. From World Series champion to the business end of a sea of flying hot dogs, Knoblauch suffered through highs and lows in Minnesota. Those opposite ends of the spectrum are what make his story so intriguing. ...

The Appalachian League started on Thursday night and Elizabethton started where they left off last year. On Friday, the Gulf Coast League will begin. The Cedar Rapids Kernels began the second half of their season. Kyle Gibson had another terrific start for Rochester, but it was not the best start in the organization on this day.

Scott Diamond picked up a win in Thursday’s sweep-clinching victory over the White Sox, but his outing could hardly be described as a strong one. Facing arguably the league’s worst lineup, the lefty made it through five innings with only one run allowed but fell apart in the sixth, coughing up a single and back-to-back homers before getting yanked with one out.

It marks the seventh time in his last eight outings that Diamond has failed to complete six innings. ...

Tonight, the Elizabethton Twins season gets underway. They will attempt to end this season the same way they ended the 2012 season. OK, maybe not in quite as dramatic fashion as requiring a walk-off, extra inning grand slam, but the goal will again be to win an Appalachian League title. Long-time manager Ray Smith, along with long-time hitting coach Jeff Reed and second-year pitching coach Henry Bonilla, have built a bit of a dynasty in Tennessee.

This is the time when people often make wild trade speculations. I've tried not to do that here, but rather propose who could be traded and what is a realistic return. The Twins can do very well here if they are willing to be sellers.

The Twins are going to have to make key decisions about who to keep and what they can get for 2014 and beyond. In what follows, I lay out moves that could be made for the short- and long-term as the Twins try to figure out their future. I am starting with position players as these guys should be first on the trading block. ...

After spending 8 seasons, playing for four different major league organizations, as well as two independent teams, Antoan Richardson may be racing his way back to the major leagues. In AA-New Britain, Richardson showcased his speed and ability to get on base hitting .336, with 14 steals and a .456 OBP in 33 games. Since being called up to the AAA- Rochester Red Wings, the numbers have been just as impressive, hitting .306 with 13 steals, and a .466 OBP in 35 games. During the Red Wings last home stand, I had the chance to talk to Richardson about his college days, baseball in the Bahamas, and what he looks for when getting ready to steal a base. ...

The Cedar Rapids Kernels are in the midst of their All-Star break so they were again out of action Wednesday night. This didn't stop the Twins from announcing that one of their top prospects, Max Kepler, would be joining that club. He had been at extended spring training working to recover from an elbow injury. The power hitting outfielder will take over a corner outfield spot since Byron Buxton is manning center field in Cedar Rapids.
