Kepler Amongst Top 1st Basemen - Baseball America

Rate this Entry
Max Kepler is listed 14th amongst minor league first basemen. He is ahead of some promising names. Is anyone else surprised by this? 1st Base? Is this a sign moving forward?

    I still think Twins will try him in the OF for the time being. Especially with Mauer now at first till 2018

    Nice to see Kepler on the list...although, some context.

    The Overall 1B Grade =======> D+

    It's a pretty sorry bunch compared to most positions.

    I would guess only 4-5 of those guys ever have a WAR season over 2.

    This shows his flexibility as a player, not only for now, but potentially with the Twins in a few years, especially if the OF prospects in the system continue to prove themselves. But he is undobtedly a quality OF prospect in his own right and will continue to play there mostly for the next few seasons.

    We have yet to see the best of him. Hopefully that begins this year.

    I think the main reason they had him at first base was because of the arm problem he had last year. I'm hearing he'll be going back to the outfield now that his arm problems are behind him. Still, I think they'll have him playing both positions this year with the outfield being primary. He's impressive as a hitter in the context that he's always been playing with older players. My prediction is that he'll be traded within a year or two. We've got several impressive outfielders and he'll be more attractive if he can play an infield position. He's not the only one that will be traded down the line. When you draft high several years in a row you tend to stock alot of players that can get blocked.
