Just adopted Salcedo. Sorry about the late entrance. Since I am just starting, Salcedo's season stats currently are (after May 18's ballgame) 3 wins no losses, 4.26 ERA, 19 IP, 22 H, 9 R all earned, 2 HR, and 23 K's. Tonight Salcedo threw two scoreless innings to up his scoreless streak to 8 and 2/3 innings. Salcedo has a couple of bad outings being the season and another on April 28, but he seems to be adjusting well to the bullpen in his recent outings. He is consistently striking out 2 to 3 batters per outing so that seems to be a good sign. More to follow the rest of the season. Here's to hoping a once prize starting pitching prospect can turn it around in the bullpen.

Josh Burris was a 17th round pick in 2011 out of LSU-E (not to be confused with LSU). He will turn 22 this year. Last year he pitched for the Appy League Etwins and sported a 7-0 record as a reliever. He posted a 1.75 ERA over 36 innings with 40 strike outs. Opponents hit .190 off him. His only issue has been walks. He walked 21 batters last year.

Burris has a good fastball, a hammer curveball and as far as I know, a change-up. Pretty sure he will be pitching out of the pen for a while. Not sure if the Twins intend on having him move to the rotation eventually.

Due to shoulder problems, he wasn't really able to throw much if at all during spring training so the Twins were forced to have him start the season in extended spring training. However, burris has just joined the Cedar Rapids roster and will hopefully see some action soon.

good luck Josh!

RF-LF-CF
5'11'', 183 pounds
Bats: both, Throws: right
DOB: 11-20-1990

Known for his blazing speed, Williams had a fantastic season in 2011 at Elizabethon, but was a bit overshadowed by Sano and Rosario. 2012 was a bad year for Williams at low-A.

So far in 2013 he is off to a strong start returning to low-A ball. His OPS is 1.052 and he has already hit 3 homers, which was half his total for all of 2012. After a bad k/bb rate in 2012 of 39/115, he has turned in a 14/11 rate so far, which is a very good thing to see. He has already swiped 6 bags and looks much more like the player from 2011.

Williams could very likely finish the season at Fort Myers and he will be an interesting player to watch in the outfield over the next few seasons to see where he measures up against the rest of the deep OF pool found in the Twins organization.

Lewis Thorpe, LHP
Born: November 23, 1995 in Melbourne, Australia
Height 6'1", Weight: 175 lbs

Lewis Thorpe was signed by the Twins as an international free agent last year. His signing bonus of $500,000 was the second largest bonus awarded by the Twins, behind Amaurys Minier's $1.4 million. As a point of reference, $500,000 was the slot amount for the 95th overall pick in last years draft, and was just outside the top 30 bonuses given out by all teams last year.

Since Thorpe doesn't turn 18 until November this year it's going to be a while before the Twins really know what they got. Right now, we know that he's got a fastball that usually sits in the mid to upper 80's and has touched 91. His off-speed stuff is not too advanced yet, but he's said to have a good feel for the spin on his breaking ball. The Twins will hope that he learns to throw a good change-up as well, something the organization is good at developing.

Thorpe is in Fort Myers for extended spring training right now, and he hasn't been put on a roster yet, but if things go well we will most likely see him pitch for the GCL Twins later this summer.

He does have a Twitter account @lewisT18 where you can get updates on his Tiger Woods PGA Tour competition with fellow prospect Austin Malinowski. And I'll post any news until we see him in action.

Deibinson Joel Romero
Born: 9/24/86, Dominican Republic
Position: 3B
Bats: Right
Throws: Right

Deibinson Romero signed at age 17 with the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted free agent on July 21, 2004. In 2012, he played 138 games with the AA New Britain Rock Cats, batting .267, with 19 HR, and 78 RBI. Romero tied for fifth in the Eastern League in homers and RBIs, ranked sixth in walks and third in games played.

This year, Romero did not make it to the Twins camp on time because immigration officials in the Dominican Republic were unable to issue him a visa. A hurricane last year destroyed the town hall in Romero's hometown of Perdenales, destroying his birth records. Until recently, he was working out at the Twins' Dominican academy. Romero joined extended spring training this week and hopes to be in game shape in a short time.
In 2012, he was selected in the 1st round (42nd overall) of the June Amateur draft by the Twins. He pitched 7.0 innings for Elizabethton and Gulf Coast Twins in 2012, primarily as a closer, allowing 3 runs, 9 walks and 9 strikeouts.
I'll post more about him as I learn more about him. Elizabethton doesn't begin play until June.

Daniel Ortiz (LF) was selected by the Twins in the 4th round of the 2008 First year player draft. He spent 2009 with the Gulf Coast Twins, missed 2009 following knee surgery, spent 2010 with Elizebethton, was in Beloit for all of the 2011 and 22 games of 2012. Spent the rest of 2012 at Fort Meyers and is at New Britain this year.

So far this year, Daniel is batting .286 with a .333 OBP, slugging .519, and has an OPS of .853. In 77 at bats, he has 7 doubles, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 6 walks and 22 strikeouts.

At Twins Daily, we believe that the Minnesota Twins minor leaguers deserve to be recognized. The success of Adopt-a-Prospect is evident. It provides a place on the internet where minor leaguers can be recognized for their achievement. Last week, 41 Twins minor leaguers were “Adopted” and you can learn more about them here. Starting at 9:00 a.m. central time on Friday, April 26, more players can be adopted.

For the first time, we are going to do a second round of Adopt-A-Prospect. We will allow people to adopt a second player. The other rules remain the same. Start a new thread with the player’s name, and in the first post, tell us all about your player. Brag up your players.

It should be a lot of fun to “adopt” some of the lesser-known minor leaguers and learn all about them and be able to share that with Twins Daily readers. Be sure to check out the other rules below, and if you feel that you can meet the requirements, please stop by on Friday and adopt-a-prospect.

Take a look at who has already been drafted below. Then check out the Twins Daily Rosters & Payroll list for the minor league rosters and decide who you would like to learn more about. Then, down below in the Comments, after I’ve kicked of Adopt-a-Prospect 2 on Friday morning, post your adoption!

Rules of Adopt-A-Prospect:

1) Twins Daily members can only ‘adopt’ ONE prospect at this time, in Adopt-a-Prospect 2. Each Twins prospect can only be adopted once. It will be first-come, first-serve in a new thread here that will be opened at 9:00 a.m. CST on Friday morning. (We will have another Adopt-a-Prospect after the Draft where you could draft a third prospect.)

2) Once you have confirmed that you have that player, you can post a thread. The title of the thread you start should just be that player's name. First post must be an introduction of the player. The format of the post is up to the individual, but please be sure to get all the important information needed on the player. For Example, Name, Position, Handedness, Drafted/Signed/Acquired (out of where/what round), Previous Stats, etc. Feel free to make it as detailed as you want. (There are a lot of websites you could link to such as their Baseball-Reference, The Baseball Cube, First Inning, Fan Graphs, MiLB.com, affiliate’s websites, etc.)

3) After the initial post (and throughout the season), you MUST update the thread AT LEAST once every week. If you fail to do this, the prospect can be taken away from you. [If a player is inactive due to injury or suspension, this requirement is waived as appropriate.]

If you would like to update more often, please feel free. Updates should, at least, include Year-To-Date numbers for the player. The more information given, however, the better. Brag up your prospect!

4) Any major event (i.e. Promotion/Demotion/Trade/Perfect Game/4 HRs in one game...) must be reflected in the thread within a day of the event. Failure to update for this purpose may result in losing your adoptee.

5) Threads will be closed one week after a prospect has been traded out of the organization. However, if the player is traded back to the Twins (for some reason), the member who had the prospect will have the option to regain the prospect.

6) If a player is placed on the 25-man roster, this is wonderful news and you can continue that player’s thread. Reward for your player getting to the big leagues is that you can adopt a second prospect at that point. Even if the first player is eventually sent back to the minor leagues, you can maintain both prospect threads.

7) All other rules which are enforced on the main board will be enforced here.

After 962 plate appearances in AA with a .754 OPS, Herrmann is finally playing at AAA this season. He is struggling early on, but that is to be expected. He has posted a .182/.234/.227 (.461) line in 48 plate appearances. He will be a solid depth guy on the Twins bench in the future, providing both the club with both a backup catcher and fifth outfielder.

Luis Perdomo
D.o.B: 4/27/1984
Position: Right Handed Relief Pitcher
Vitals: 6'0", 180 lbs
Current Team: Rochester Red Wings

Key Stats: After 8 seasons with over 80% of his innings pitched in the minor leagues we're starting to bend the rules calling Luis Perdomo "a prospect". And yet, he clearly has enough potential to make him an intriguing candidate for bullpen duty at the major league level. (Why else keep him plugging away at AAA for 4 years? To delight the residents of Rochester?)

Last year was a strong one for Luis, posting his best ERA and K/9 since 2008 and and his best WHIP & K:BB ratio since 2007 (in A ball). He even got a couple cups of coffee with the Twins before spoiling the bed and being out-righted to Rochester again.

But most importantly, it was a great year for his beard, a beard so luxurious and dominant that we kind of tracked it's progress more than Luis' (it was all part of our masterplan to create the greatest reliever of all time. As his picture with the Red Wings tells you, he's given up the beard in favor of the purely stubble look. Without the beard's intimidation factor (a la Brian Wilson and Sergio Romo), who knows how Perdomo will fare this year?

Oh right...Rochester residents. So far this season Luis has an 8.00 ERA (helped not at all by yesterday's 0 out, 2 ER performance against Pawtucket), and far less impressive strike out and walk numbers. The season is early but the solution is clear: GROW OUT THE BEARD LUIS!
