For the 9-to-5ers in Twins Territory, those who did not attend the game should consider themselves lucky they stayed in the office rather than witness Nick Blackburn’s last start on Wednesday afternoon.

For the second consecutive start, Blackburn was punished across the field, allowing another pair of home runs to Chicago’s Adam Dunn and Alex Rios. ...

    Byron Buxton

    Position: OF
    Age: 18
    Drafted: 1st Round, 2nd pick

The Twins have always been infatuated with toolsy outfielders so it wasn’t a surprise when they passed on several high end collegiate pitchers in order to grab Buxton with the 2nd overall pick. Even without that infatuation it would have been hard to pass up on a player that many consider to be the best prospect in the entire ...

Oh boy, it was a rough one for the Twins, who took the "pitch-to-contact" mentality to a new level when they gave up a combined 21 hits to the White Sox in what ended up being an ugly 12-5 loss.

After the game, it was announced that pitcher Kyle Waldrop had been recalled to Minnesota, and Jeff Manship was optioned.

It was also announced that the Twins acquired pitcher Shairon Martis from the Pirates. Don't get too excited; this sounds just like a move to acquire ...

    The Big Picture

The Rangers have been the American League representative in the World Series each of the past two seasons. In 2012, they are 46-29 and battling with the New York Yankees for the best record in the league. To no surprise, the Los Angeles Angels have started playing (pitching) better and despite a slow start, they are just 4.5 games behind Texas.

Why They Will Trade With the Twins

Despite a ninth inning rally, the Twins could not defeat the baseball goliath that is Gavin Floyd and the Chicago White Sox. Liam Hendriks pitched his second quality start, going 6 1/3 and giving up three earned runs. The Twins managed only seven hits but the real culprit last night was men left on base, with the Twins going 1-for-10 with RISP. Tonight, the Twins face another difficult matchup in Chris Sale, who is countered by Nick Blackburn. Given Blackburn's recent performances, the Twins are going to need a lot more ...

Ever since his demotion to the bullpen, Francisco Liriano has been back to his new-old self.

In 37.1 innings, Liriano has posted a much improved 2.41 ERA, limited hitters to a .157 average against and has struck out 40 while walking just 14 thanks to rekindling his relationship with his dirty, dirty slider.

Nevertheless, even with the improvement, the Twins front office has to be considering moving the enigmatic starter at the upcoming trade deadline because of the current state of the organization and the $12 million price tag required to offer him in arbitration in order to secure a compensatory draft pick. If the Twins are committed to rebuilding and strengthening the organization for several years instead of just next year, trading the rejuvenated Liriano makes complete sense.

The question is what sort of return could the Twins expect at the deadline?

    The Big Picture
The Jays currently find themselves in a familiar situation, enjoying a good season but struggling to gain traction in a treacherous division. Toronto's 38-36 record would have them a game back in the AL Central, but the team sits last in the East, trailing the red-hot Yankees by 7.5 games.

That's right, the Blue Jays – with a record two games over .500 – are only one game closer to first than the Twins, who hold the American League's worst record. Yep, life in the AL East is tough.

Of course, this has always been Toronto's plight, and it's not likely to change any time soon. At some point, they need to make an aggressive push to overcome their daunting divisional rivals, and with the strong roster they have assembled, now seems like as good a time as any. ...

With all of the talk before the game about Twins hitters destroying Gavin Floyd, it was bound to happen that he was going to put up a good performance. Over the course of seven shut out innings, he struck out nine Twins batters and only gave up five hits. Liam Hendriks had his best start of the season throwing over six innings to the tune of three runs with an Alex Rios home run being the big dagger.

In the ninth inning, the Twins made things interesting by loading the bases with two outs in the frame. Jamey Carroll knocked in a couple runs with a single to cut the lead to 3-2 but that would be the final score. There was just too much Gavin Floyd on this night.

Twins fans couldn't have asked for a better game than last night. Peavy was hit early and often while Liriano continued his streak of dominant pitching on the way to a 4-1 win in a performance that felt far more dominating than the score showed at the end of the night. Powered by nine (!) hits from the top third of the lineup, the Twins look to repeat last night's performance against a struggling Gavin Floyd. ...

Come out to the ballpark on Saturday, August 11th for a 6 PM game and enjoy a high level of baseball discourse with the opportunity to interact with fellow fans and the front office of the Minnesota Twins.

Prior to Saturday’s game, relax in the Owner’s Boardroom among 40 or so of your closest newfound friends and pepper the front office with topical inquiries such as “Y u no sign Prince Fielder?” and “What does Brian Dozier smell like?” (Note: You are not allowed to ask about the J.J. Hardy trade as it is still too fresh in Nick Nelson’s mind. Please do not re-open that wound.)

Six weeks ago, I put up a post here arguing that it was much too soon to “pull the plug” on the Twins’ 2012 season. I argued that, despite an admittedly dismal start, the Twins were performing fairly well on most fronts, with the glaring exception of their starting pitching, and that they were just about to begin playing their own Division rivals on a regular basis. ...
