With all of the talk before the game about Twins hitters destroying Gavin Floyd, it was bound to happen that he was going to put up a good performance. Over the course of seven shut out innings, he struck out nine Twins batters and only gave up five hits. Liam Hendriks had his best start of the season throwing over six innings to the tune of three runs with an Alex Rios home run being the big dagger.

In the ninth inning, the Twins made things interesting by loading the bases with two outs in the frame. Jamey Carroll knocked in a couple runs with a single to cut the lead to 3-2 but that would be the final score. There was just too much Gavin Floyd on this night.

Twins fans couldn't have asked for a better game than last night. Peavy was hit early and often while Liriano continued his streak of dominant pitching on the way to a 4-1 win in a performance that felt far more dominating than the score showed at the end of the night. Powered by nine (!) hits from the top third of the lineup, the Twins look to repeat last night's performance against a struggling Gavin Floyd. ...

Come out to the ballpark on Saturday, August 11th for a 6 PM game and enjoy a high level of baseball discourse with the opportunity to interact with fellow fans and the front office of the Minnesota Twins.

Prior to Saturday’s game, relax in the Owner’s Boardroom among 40 or so of your closest newfound friends and pepper the front office with topical inquiries such as “Y u no sign Prince Fielder?” and “What does Brian Dozier smell like?” (Note: You are not allowed to ask about the J.J. Hardy trade as it is still too fresh in Nick Nelson’s mind. Please do not re-open that wound.)

Six weeks ago, I put up a post here arguing that it was much too soon to “pull the plug” on the Twins’ 2012 season. I argued that, despite an admittedly dismal start, the Twins were performing fairly well on most fronts, with the glaring exception of their starting pitching, and that they were just about to begin playing their own Division rivals on a regular basis. ...

The Twins just beat the White Sox 4-1. Ben Revere had a four-hit night. Frankie Liriano found his mojo and went seven strong, striking out five. (I've officially declared on Twitter that unless the Twins are blown away by a trade offer, I want them to keep Liriano and offer him arbitration.) Glared Berkins (or do you prefer Jaren Purton?) slammed the door. Sadly, Ozzie Guillen wasn’t in the opposing dugout to enjoy watching the Twins do what the Twins do.

    The Big Picture
Stop me if this sounds familiar. A team with championship aspirations faces a slew of injuries to their best players. They find themselves last in their division but hope that the players return will boost them back into contention. At the trade deadline they must make a tough decision: stick to the plan or write off a season in a championship era whose window could be closing.

The Twins rallied and defeated the Cincinnati Reds in dramatic fashion yesterday on the backs of Willingham and Mauer, with Josh homering in the top of the ninth against Aroldis Chapman and taking the game 4-3. The Twins closed out their NL road trip with an acceptable 3-3 record and return home for six games against AL Central opponents. Tonight, we'll see a pair of enigmatic starters in Liriano and Peavy. Peavy has returned to his former glory in 2012 and Liriano has been stellar in his past five starts, striking out over one batter

The Twins had arguably their most exciting game of the season. In many ways, it was the 2012 positives that got it done. Trevor Plouffe hit a home run. Scott Diamond pitched great. And then the big blast off the bat of Josh Willingham that proved to be the game-winner. Of course, you can add to that an incredible plate appearance by Joe Mauer off of flame-throwing Aroldis Chapman to set up the Willingham homer. Jared Burton made it interesting but pitched out of a jam for the save. And now the Twins have a home series against the Chicago White Sox who are hoping that Kevin Youklis still has something left.

This week's series against the first-place White Sox will serve as a tough test for this Twins team. They've rebounded after a lousy start to go 13-10 over their last 23 games, remaining on the periphery of an AL Central race that no club seems poised to run away with. In three days, the Twins could conceivably be within 5.5 games of first place. They could also find themselves out of it by double digits.

Perhaps no one will be under a bigger microscope in this crucial showdown than Francisco Liriano. ...

Coming off a disastrous 6-0 loss last night, both the Twins pitching and offense looks to get back on track behind their wins leader, Scott Diamond. Countering for the Reds is Mike Leake, a righty pitching in his third season with the club. Which Diamond will show up today for Minnesota? Will the offense break out of its slump and score more than twice? When do we get to stop watching Twins pitchers flail at baseballs like a little leaguer?

While the Twins were winning the opening game of their series with the Reds Friday night, I was spending just about a perfect night watching minor league baseball. The Beloit Snappers (the Twins’ Midwest League affiliate) opened the second half of their season here in Cedar Rapids against the Kernels.

The big club lost 6-0 to the Reds this evening. Starter Brian Duensing threw 3 shutout innings, and then hit a wall (his own words), giving up 4 runs in the 4th. The Twins accumulated only 3 hits all day. In the end, it was a recipe for yet another loss. All the affiliates were in action today, so let's take a look at all of the action.

Powered last night by a hit attack from Ben Revere and Ryan Doumit, the Twins rallied and defeated the Cincinnati Reds 5-4. Blackburn pitched a typical 5IP, 4ER stat line but this time, it was enough for the Twins to come out on top. In today's game, Brian Duensing gets a spot start against the Reds' Johnny Cueto. Will the Reds stack the lineup with right-handers against Duensing? After last night's 4-for-4 effort by Doumit and Revere, who will step forward for the Twins' offense today?

As always, we'll be discussing ...
