Thread: Zumaya injured already!?

I just got a text saying that Zumaya just walked off the mound with the trainer. Uh oh.

Souhan tweeted "Never draw conclusions from BP but Zumaya is throwing quite hard. It seems."

Three minutes later, he tweeted "Zumaya ends session early. Walks off with trainer. Says he's ok but..."

The beat writers on Twitter did not make it sound urgent so hopefully it was just a bit of recovery discomfort and not something more. But it is Zumaya soe...

I hope so. I know the chances are slim to none that he'll be healthy all year, but he's one of those guys that I've always enjoyed watching play. It will be nice to finally see him in Twins jersey (hopefully), like Thome was, like Buehrle would have been, and like I dream Verlander someday will be.

Zumaya hasn't thrown more than 38.1 innings in any season since 2006. No chance he contributes a single thing this year, but he was a low-risk signing. Human arms just aren't built to handle the torque associated with his delivery. Hopefully his Guitar Hero playing days are not done.

Geez, I don't know if I'd go that far. He did help break in Herrmann's catcher's mitt a little before walking off the field, right?

Fran, I completely agree... I just thought the two tweets, just three minutes apart, were just so opposite. He looks great, he's throwing really hard... he walked off the mound with a trainer... hopefully it is just some normal discomfort.

If this does end up being serious, we'll see if the Twins had a backup plan like Aaron Gleeman wanted. I'm leaning towards Twins Geek's answer, and that's a no.

Got ESPN 1500 on and there is nothing there yet... Heyman tweeted that "Zumaya felt something". The Twins' beat writers say he's not talking to the media but they are waiting Ryan to announce something. Mackey said "it looks like elbow" . But hard to tell unless he gets it examined. Could be muscular as well... Who knows. Too early to start getting upset about it. Hope it is nothing

Why would you just walk off the mound, if you are not injured?

Hopefully it is nothing major. The Twins need something to go right for the bullpen to be successful this year. the front office for the Twins seemed excited about what he could bring to the organization. It seems like history is repeating itself and Zumaya's history is hard to ignore. Fingers crossed for no bad news

Zumaya won't be speaking to the media. Terry Ryan, however, will be providing an update (per Twitter).

Well, at least if Zumaya is injured the Twins can still fall back on...um...oh, right...

Eddie Guardado is already in camp. And from what I remember he's ready Everyday.

I am hoping it is nothing serious. But if he is going to get injured, it would be better if it happened now.

We shouldn't worry with all the bullpen help that the twins acquired in the offseason...

Bollinger now calls it "apparent elbow injury" as well... (Mackey said so pretty much when happened.)
