Handbook givaway to those who cannot afford it
I know from our recent poll that the $6.95 initial price isn't onerous to most of our readers, but I also know that the last thing we want to do is exclude any offseason junkies because times are a little tough. So let's do it this way....John -
If I order 6 copies of the handbook, would you be willing to start a thread to give away 5 copies to people who cannot afford to buy it, such as the first year teacher? First come first served.
I was thinking that this could go to the first 5 people who say they need it with no questions asked, because I don't want people who are already suffering from this terrible economy to have to justify their need, and I believe that only people who need this will ask for it.
I would like to help fans who are suffering from this economy, but if the logistics are a pain in the butt for you then I will understand.
Regards,
Anonymous
1) I assume people might be hesitant to ask for this publicly, so if you want a TwinsCentric Offseason Handbook, but feel like you can't afford it, EMAIL ME (not message me through the system) at John at Bonnes dottt com. Since we only have five to giveaway, please only do so if you feel like you otherwise cannot afford it. Also, please include your Twins Daily username.
2) If anyone wants to make a similar pledge to purchase as Anonymous is, whether it's one more copy or ten, post it in the thread below. And THANK YOU.
I'll find time to cross compare the pledges with the sales logs, tally up the giveaway copies that have been purchased and send out copies to the first X number of requests we get.
Let's try it this year and see how it goes. Maybe it can be an annual thread. Or maybe it's a logistical disaster. I'm willing to find out.
John

I have to say, this is a strange proposition. Unless the person asking for the Charity handbook is a child, I find it hard to believe that an adult individual would ask for the said donation. Adult humans in tough situations have pride and honor and most probably wouldn't request such a low level of donation. If you cannot afford the handbook, how can you afford having internet access? The library is an option, but it seems a bit far fetched. I have no problem with this proposition, but I have a hard time believing participants on this site need that type of charity. Maybe I am wrong, and believe me, I do understand the ins and outs of being impoverished. Maybe what I am about to say is destined for the slippery slope - if you cannot afford a $7.00 handbook, why would you waste your time delving into this website or any other one at that? It would seem that their are bigger fish to fry if an individual is immersed in that kind of predicament.

I'd rather you guys just donate the proceeds from 1 of the 6 books that "anonymous" bought to a charity where people actually need it. I don't care what the economy is like, if one is to cheap to spend $7 for a book they want, then they are indeed cheap not "hard up".
Just my two cents.

Geez, I know it is only 7 dollars, but put yourself in someone else's shoes. Some of us may not be able to own a computer, some of us may have to use other avenues to read these blog posts, such as internet cafe's or libraries. Not everyone is born with a golden spoon in their mouth. Just because we are twins fans doesn't mean we are all middle class Americans with expandable income...
I respect the person who has donated these handbooks and God bless you. Also, if you get a reciept, I would make sure to write that off on your taxes, just a thought.

$7 of disposable income = born with the "golden" spoon in their mouth?
Got it.

I don't see why this is an issue. Someone wants to do something nice for another Twins fan and people are complaining about it. Really, Internet? Come on... Just let the guy do something nice for another person. He was even decent enough to leave his name out of it and did it anonymously.

Geek, tried the email you posted. Anyway, I purchased 5 copies, 4 to give away. Good work.

Hey richie rich, leave your elitist comments out of the blog and just take your $7 handbook and go hang out with Romney and Buffet. You probably have a ticket oak in your yard as well.

Look at the shirt again, it is Nick Punto's, and he makes a ton of money. Thank you for correcting my post. I wonder if La Velle E. Neal has to deal with people correcting him on his blog at the startribune.com.
Also, our argument was not that we could not afford it. It was that some people perhaps could not. Some of those 47% some people don't care about (Romney).

Well, considering that, before the 2012 season, he didn't even know Dozier was a shortstop, I would say he does :-)
