Your favorite #12 memory
To countdown the days until pitchers and catchers report, we're looking at which Twins had the number for that day. With 13 days left, what is your favorite memory of these Twins players?
12
Bernie Allen, 1962-63
Ron Henry, 1964
Joe McCabe, 1964
Cesar Tovar, 1965-72
Danny Walton, 1973
Eric Soderholm, 1973-76
Rich Chiles, 1977-78
Rick Sofield, 1979-81
Lenny Faedo, 1982-84
Tack Wilson, 1983
Mark Salas, 1985-87
Brian Harper, 1988-93
Matt Merullo, 1995
Chip Hale, 1996
Todd Walker, 1997-2000
Danny Ardoin, 2000
Tom Prince, 2001-03
Mike Ryan, 2004-05
Jason Tyner, 2006-07
Adam Everett, 2008
Alexi Casilla, 2010-121
Lots of sentimntal choices to choose from here.
- Walker is on this list again (because Chip Hale was gone.)
- Jason Tyner might be one of the most underrated Twins ever. Check out his numbers sometime.
- Ditto Brian Harper. Is he in the Twins HOF?
- I was going to go with Chip Hale, but it turns out he's not the guy I'm thinking of. Who was the guy who in the late 90s, tore up his knee to a ball in right field, but got up, limped over and thre the ball back in? Does anyone else remember that? I think it was the last thing he did in his career. Most competetive thing I ever saw.
But since that wasn't Hale, I'll go with noodle-arm Harper. Plus...the 'stache.

Brian Harper getting flipped in the '91 World Series by Lonnie Smith and somehow holding on to the ball for the out at home... Then, before Game 7's, the two shook hands before the first pitch.

Easily Harper for me. Never thought a catcher could rake until he came along.

01-31-2013, 11:29 AM #4That was Chad Allen. it ended his season, but he came back... and now he's the hitting coach for New Britain.I was going to go with Chip Hale, but it turns out he's not the guy I'm thinking of. Who was the guy who in the late 90s, tore up his knee to a ball in right field, but got up, limped over and thre the ball back in? Does anyone else remember that? Gotta be Brian Harper taking a close pitch. He always looked it back into the catchers glove. That or his confrontation at home in the 91 world series.

Cesar Tovar and Brian Harper should be Twins HOFers ahead of Guardado.

Yeah, Harper's home plate collision when it mattered is my #12 memory for sure.

Pepi Tovar strikes out Reggie Jackson in his game that he played all 9 positions - HOF material and best #12 moment EVER!

Fun fact: Alexi Casilla had the number "12" etched into the rims of his Porsche Cayenne. See, that was fun.

Lenny Faedo being the other guy on Kent Hrbek's rookie card, along with Hrbek and Laudner.

Can't say I ever saw him play but the fact that Bernie Allen was also a Big Ten quarterback is pretty cool. After Purdue beat Ohio State one year he went after Woody Hayes to see if he still thought Allen too small to play in the Big Ten. No punches thrown though.
