Indians Release Cristian Guzman. Will the Twins pick him up?

Here's a link to the Hardball Talk post about Cristian Guzman getting released by the Indians. With the Twins middle infield need for a backup shortstop, its seems plausible that they would look into bringing the ex-Twins infielder back in 2012.

Sounds like he has a hamstring injury. That, combined with him not playing at all last year, I would think that the Twins will pass.

Seems a little unlikely, especially since if they desperately need a shortstop, they could call up Dozier, even if he isn't doing very well. The Twins could also just patch their infield together, say if Carroll gets injured, with Casilla as SS, Hughes at 2B, and Parmelee at 1B (if he makes the team, and he is playing like he should).

No. That ship went to sea a long time ago.

DeRosa would be a significantly better option for SS

I'd love to see Guzzie back but it's not a smart baseball decision. Ryan Theriot doesn't do much for me either, don't see him as a significant upgrade over Hughes. The middle infield plan should be as simple as wait for Dozier, and if somebody gets hurt give Nishi another try.

There are plenty of mediocre infielders the Twins would try before Guzman. Too much of a risk with his injury.

Guzman has had such and up and down career. In his good years he was fun to watch.

Loved all those triples he hit! His Twins time is over and probably his career in baseball. Good luck to ya Mr. Guzman, it was really fun!

    Other "plausible" options:

Denny Hocking. Brent Gates. Todd Walker. Roy Smalley. A cardboard cutout of Zoilo Versalles.

I heard Al Newman is looking for work as well. Also, Gates played 2nd GENIUS.

As did Walker...sort of. But every bit as plausible as Christian Guzman.
