Carrying a prospect on the 40 man roster for two years is normal.
The twins will carry Polanco, Kepler, and Vargas for at least two years before they get a sniff of MLB.
There are many examples...

Protected Polanco, Kepler, and Vargas from the likes of Astros, Cubs, ....
Darnell - LP at AAA - likely to be plucked in Rule 5
Once they sign two FA pitchers - who gets dropped:

If the Astros felt Polanco was a top ten Twins prospect, then why wouldn't they select him?
They're not going to win 60 games with or without him.
I would protect Kepler for the same reason but I...

If another team left a top ten talent like Polanco or Kepler off their 40 man, I would want the Twins to pick and stash him for a year. It's not like the Twins will be in contention in 2014. This is...

(36) present roster
(2) Free Agent Pitchers
(1) Rule 5
(2) Polanco, Kepler
The Astros are so bad they may stash Kepler on their roster for a year if not protected.
The Twins would need to...

I would put the pitchers higher than Polanco or Kepler.
If I could only protect seven players for a trade, I would give up Polanco or Kepler before Berrios or Thorpe. Starting pitching is so scarce...

Text above states Rogers as 2011 pick (needs correction). I assumed it was correct.
I look at value this way: who would I'll be less willing to trade. Baxendale has shown a capability to dominate...

Romero over Jorge Felix seems like a stretch.
Rogers over Baxendale doesn't make sense. Baxendale was pushed faster and he totally dominated A+ where Rogers finished.
Baxendale was drafted in...
Here's my list for pitchers:
Garza - E. Santana - Tanaka - expensive (try to get one)
Josh Johnson - Hughes - Baker - Colby Lewis - low to medium cost (try to sign two of the four to two year deals)

Tie breaker is the prior year's record
1. Understand the goal is to build a winning club for 2016-2022.
2. Maximize players arb years - do not rush prospects into the majors
3. Most young players take a year or two to...

Bard, Chargois, and Berrios didn't make Cedar Rapids?
Is it a "limit innings issue" or ability?

The club and agent both know the deal. If Super 2 is avoided then the club has more leverage - one more year before arb. or discount in a multi year contract because of the extra year.

If the Marlins got top prospects then it's a good trade for them.
Reyes, Buehrle, and Buck were signed as expensive free agents and Johnson is in his walk year.

Obviously this hurts.
Hopefully Ryan signs two legit FA SP and trade for another.
No one will sign him for 4/60 when they could have had for 1/13-14 in a minor deal with the Angels.
I was disappointed that Ryan didn't make a trade for him.
Either he signs a 1/10 to get back...

Ratings based on who I would rather keep or trade :
- Salcedo - low k rate even before injury
- Herrmann - back-up C/OF
- Santana - OBP is too low
- Hernandez - nothing special (AAA...

Presently at 35
Minus Pavano & Casilla
Plus: Rule V pick & (2) SP Free Agent
Even: Trade Span or other player on 40 for SP
Four Spots: Hicks, Gibson, Hermsen, open
Open - could be Blackburn...
Twins web site indicates Vavra and Ullger will be minor league instructors.
Off the subject - from ESPN's Keith Law
What kind of numbers could Chris Parmelee put up in a full season? He seems to be a different player over the last year and a half. Make sense to trade...

Carroll has been the best middle infielder.
It should be Carroll and Florimon to start next year.
Dozier and Escobar to start in AAA.
Obviously Ryan doesn't believe in Slama so he would rather keep him as an insurance policy for next year.
If Ryan adds Slama to the 40 and then he takes him off then another team only needs to...
Parmelee, Manship, Vasquez, Carson, and Escobar.
Gardy probably would like to learn more about Escobar.
Dozier hasn't earned to go back.
I like others would like to see Slama but the Twins...

Pre-load position depends on the individual (see Youkilis). Everyone's different.
More important is the hands position at the load (right before the swing occurs).
I believe Revere was talking...

The comparison from a few years is interesting. The analysis is off.
Earlier this year Plouffe was late getting his foot down.
Too early - nothing behind swing
Too late - dead
fyi - nobody...
