He dove and made a catch and came out and said it hurt. Sounds like a sprained wrist, which is day-to-day, but they'll be cautious.
A few days later, after some swelling goes down, they're able to...

I know. And it only happens here, too. For example the Rays are so good, I'm sure they only play to standing room only crowds.

Yes, because people who find ONE thing to nitpick about Mauers game therefore think he's a terrible baseball player.
04-10-2014, 06:09 PM
A couple things:
1) Can you point me to where you determined that Mauer has "the highest average in baseball when he makes contact with the first pitch?" You might be right, but can you confirm...

Torii Hunter was a mentor to Denard Span.

I disagree, chitown.....if you are the FACE of the franchise, and the marketing campaign is built around you, and you are the best player, and, and, and all the things that come with being the...

To be fair, you have to understand that his leadership gets called into question because his production doesn't answer the question itself.
If you're not driving in people, getting the big hits,...

Well, so much for that largely civil discussion.
04-09-2014, 08:53 PM
But part of it is what we BELIEVE he should be. We see that 6'5" frame, powerfully built and it is just hard to believe that he can't/doesn't hit more home runs.
It's a little bit mind-boggling.
04-09-2014, 08:51 PM
Well then I think you are taking it out of context.
It didn't seem to me he was using the "top 10" to rip Mauer, but to point out that he's not quite the doubles machine that cmat was suggesting,...

But not always. To assume that the poster he quoted is too stupid to know the difference between the PA's where he gets a couple good pitches but manages to coax a 7 or 8 pitch walk, and the obvious...

Really? Then what does this mean?
You'd rather he swung at bad pitches in the hope that...he accidentally got a hit?
04-09-2014, 08:09 PM
It's almost as absurd as the idea that Mauer doesn't get a single hittable pitch in any of his plate appearances that result in a walk.
I don't think anyone is asking him to swing at a bad pitch...

I tend to fall into the Mauer "apologist" category, but here are a couple things that have really bothered me.
1) The way the whole bi lateral leg weakness bizarro injury was handled.
04-09-2014, 07:05 PM
To what Chief and Leviathan just said.
As a Mauer guy, I will say it is a little disappointing, with the game on the line, to watch him take a base on balls and pass it off to the next guy.

I'm on the record in this thread as being against the Mauer hate, but your post isn't fair either.
I think there are some that boil it down to the homeruns, certainly. But I think you're sticking...

I resent the implication MN fans are somehow not as smart as NY fans (who hate AROD, despite him being better than Mauer). You really think we are dumber here, or less sophisticated? Really?
04-09-2014, 12:29 PM
This is what bugs me about Mauer, can you show me a link to where he had a sit down interview with a beat reporter and discussed this? Where did he say "I suffered setbacks from my knee surgery that...
I'm not saying teams should aim high. I'm saying asking for a 40+ HR player, 80 grade power, is asking a lot. One or two of those might be in any draft and they normally have several glaring holes in...
The other difference could be, drafting in the 20's versus top 5.
Look at Buxton, he has owned every league thus far. Of course you are going to move him. Garza was probably the exception at 25,...

This will be much less of an issue when they win in 2016.
Is it wrong I was ready with my answer before I even clicked on the thread to see why?

Gardy!!!!!!!! Whoooo Whoooo!!!!
04-05-2014, 03:03 PM
Congratulations to the MInnesota Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire. With the Twins 7-3 win over Cleveland today (Saturday), Gardenhire becomes the 60th manager in MLB history to reach 1,000 career wins!...
Just a couple thoughts in response:
1.) Has anyone really ever called Kevin Correia an Ace? He was the Twins best pitcher (arguably) last year, but no one puts him in the "ace" category.
