Rather than spew out some analysis based on hot stove rumors and theories (which I've already done on Shaun Marcum and Kevin Youkilis, by the way), I thought I would take the opportunity to field some burning questions from the Twins Daily followers via Twitter.

    On to your questions:

Who will be the Twins starting rotation on Opening Day? [@MichaelRHerman]

The Rays, possessing a glut of quality starting pitchers and seeking an outfielder who can be an asset at the top of the order, have been pointed at frequently around here as a logical trade partner for the Twins. The Offseason Handbook specifically calls out James Shields and Wade Davis as potential targets in Tampa's pitching corps, and there are several other names that hold appeal.

According to reports, the Rays hurler drawing the most interest is Jeremy Hellickson. This isn't surprising. He carries plenty of value as a young right-hander with a 3.06 career ERA and the 2011 AL Rookie of the Year trophy on his shelf. On the surface, he has the makings of a long-term top-of-the-rotation fixture.

Recently, my parents dropped a large box of old stuff they had been saving. This ranged from congratulations cards from when I was born, to athletic accomplishments to nearly every report card I've ever gotten (I've sorted the report cards, but I'm a little scared to go through them in detail). Two of my favorite items are ticket stubs from some of my favorite Twins games that I've had the privilege to attend.

    Game 6, 1987 World Series

The 1987 World Series was the first time the Twins had made the playoffs in my lifetime. To say it was a big deal would an injustice to understatements. The entire state was all-in. Led by a 27 year-old Kirby Puckett, this was one of the most likable teams I've ever cheered for.

It's Election Day across our great country and this means people should be getting out and casting their votes. Be informed about the choices you are making and help to decide the future of our country. One of the best parts about today is there won't be any more political ads on TV or the radio. Thank the heavens.

If you are reading this post, it doesn't matter if you are a Republican or a Democrat because you are most likely a fan of the Twins. Going to watch a baseball game and going to the polls to vote are two of the most American things someone can do. Only one of those All-American tasks can be accomplished today but that doesn't mean there aren't other decisions the Twins are weighing this offseason. ...
Is Span's time with the Twins almost over?

We're approaching the time when a long-time Twins player is going to be traded away. It will likely be Denard Span.

In our interview for the 2013 Offseason Handbook, Terry Ryan was careful, but stated the obvious. When talking about Chris Parmelee being a regular, Ryan admitted "We're going to try and fit [Chris Parmelee] in there somewhere, without tipping my hand too far."

Fitting Parmelee into the lineup as a regular means playing him at first base or in right field. That means moving one of four regulars: Josh Willingham, Justin Morneau, Ben Revere or Span. It's likely none are off the table, but Span is the most likely to be ...

Happy Election Day 2012! It may be happy for you for many reasons. Maybe your candidate will win. Or, maybe you are just happy that you don’t have to see any more political advertisements on TV for a couple of years. In any case, be sure to take time today to make your voice heard on a ballot.

Here are Twins Daily, you haven’t read any articles on the politicians, and you won’t. However, on this election day, I did think it would be fun to take another look at some of the greatest Minnesota Twins players over their 52 seasons in Minnesota. Below, I will list 12 candidates. ...

Last week, Twins Daily got you caught up on how the Twins players were doing in the various Winter Leagues. Obviously the entire seasons are Small Sample Size, so looking at just this week has to be taken for what it is worth. In some cases, there were really good weeks had by certain players. In other cases, they may be in a one-week slump. We’ll take a look at who is hot and who is not in Arizona, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Australia. Feel free to ask questions and discuss.

Also, via Twitter on Monday, infielder Brian Dozier mentioned that he will soon be headed to Venezuela to get some additional at bats. ...

At the end of the 2011 season, Joe Benson had to be flying high. He just completed one of the best seasons of his professional career and he was rewarded by getting a call-up to make his major league debut. There was talk of him fighting for a more permanent role with the club in the future. It looked like the sky was the limit for young Mr. Benson.

For how great the 2011 season ended, it was hard to imagine how far Benson fell during 2012 campaign. ...

Alexi Casilla's era with the Minnesota Twins is over.

Mark it down somewhere. Friday, November 2nd. It is the end of the Alexi Casilla Era as a Minnesota Twins player.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the athletic infielder who just never quite met his perceived potential has been claimed by the Baltimore Orioles.

Casilla came to the Twins in a December 2005 deal with the Angels in which the Twins send then-talented JC Romero to the west coast. Casilla debuted in September of 2006 and was primarily used as a pinch-runner down the stretch for the Twins. In his 515 career games with the Twins, Casilla hit .250/.305/.334 with 72 doubles, 14 triples and 11 homer runs in 515 games. He also stole 71 based in 80 attempts. ...
Right-handed relief pitcher Josh Roenicke was claimed by the Twins from the Colorado Rockies.

According to the Troy Renck, the Twins have claimed RHP Josh Roenicke and Infielder Thomas Field from the Colorado Rockies.

Last year in Colorado, Roenicke went 4-2 with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. In 88.2 innings, he walked 43 and struckout 54. Looks awful Jeff Gray-like to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins decided to DFA him in the coming days and try to sneak him through on a minor league deal. He's pitched in the big leagues for Cincinnati and Toronto before the Rockies.

Field hits about like Pedro Florimon who the Twins claimed from the Orioles after the 2011 season. He played in just two games for the Rockies last year after hitting .246/.315/.400 with 31 doubles, 6 triples and 8 home runs for Colorado Springs last year. He committed 24 errors in 117 games in 2012. He had played 16 games for the Rockies in 2011.

Will Twins fans regret losing out on Redmond?
    by

The biggest news from the Twins universe in the last 24 hours was the hiring of former Twins catcher Mike Redmond as the new Miami Marlins manager. He spent the last two years managing Toronto's Class A Dunedin squad so he will be making quite the jump to the big leagues. He was 40 games over the .500 mark over the last two seasons and he won Midwest Manager of the Year in 2011.

There had been talk of Redmond's potential to be a manager all the way back to his playing days. Justin Morneau went as far as to call Redmond the "missing piece" on the last Twins team to make the ...

Delmon is likely to be saying goodbye to Detroit. What's next?
    by

As reported in the Detroit Free Press, Tigers' GM Dave Dombrowski (who I occasionally confuse with this guy or this guy) announced that the Tigers weren't planning to bring back American League Championship Series MVP Delmon Young next season.

Young, playing out a 1-year 6.75 million dollar contract, hit .267/.296/.411 in 151 games for the Tigers in 2012 with 18 HR, 74 RBI and a 20/112 walks-to-strikeouts rate. He began the season as Detroit's starting left fielder but was soon swapped ...
