The subject of the thread was Hicks hitting left handed, therefore I limited my post to hitting. Imagine that, someone trying to keep to topic and remembering the topic within the first page of a thread.

The Hicks story just keeps getting more bizarre by the day.

I can't think of many reasons why Hicks would revisit switch-hitting on his injury rehab. The only legitimate answer would be if he felt some discomfort when swinging RH and wanted to see if there was the same pain hitting from the other side. I guess I won't comment further until there is more of an explanation from New Britain or the player.

Maybe it shouldn't be an all or nothing thing anyway.

Stand in the box RH-RH until 2 strikes, then switch to LH? Or vice versa, depending on what the pitcher throws.

Yeah, when you compile this, along with refusing to play winter ball, and the whole "showing up not knowing who's pitching" stuff, it certainly seems Hicks marches to the beat of his own drum.
That's fine if it works, but it's not going to give you much benefit of the doubt if it doesnt.

All things considered, I'm kind of surprised that more switch-hitters don't go through a crisis of confidence like Hicks.

Uh... What a weird development path Hicks has taken.

If this is what he wants to do, leave him in AA the rest of the season.

    Kinda sad really.

It is becoming easier to understand their frustration with him. Maybe he needed to hit rock bottom. I am still hoping the kid can get it together. Heck, right now I would be satisfied to see him become a good 4th outfielder.

We don't have much outfield depth. Kepler is having a pretty bad year. I am really pulling for AB Walker but he has some things to figure out if he is going to be a big league player. Harrison is not showing a corner OF bat. I guess the good news is they have the payroll flexibility to spend on a corner OFer next year. The have plenty of pitching now and lots of IF options.

Why was this moved to the minor league forum? Hicks is still on the MLB disabled list, correct?

Yes he is. I too am confused at why the thread was moved.
MLB players on rehab assignment have traditionally been discussed on the main board, at least as I can recall.

The inevitable being that four years from now Hicks bats .270/.340/.400 in center field for another team and makes the playoffs

Four years from now he'll be paid big money for those numbers, so maybe at that point I care less than I do now.
