Mauer not driving in Span from 3rd with one out in the 1st looms large.

If we win this, the White Sox will be completely demoralized, which could lead to another Twins win tomorrow.

Wimmers was supposed to fall into that category too, but then got the yips, followed by failing to "man up" through this current injury.

Didn't see any of the game, but glad I didn't. Right when the team starts giving you a little hope they bring us all back to reality.

    edit: we are coming back?!?

    double edit: damnit

At least they made it close. I wish Span had been a bit more patient.

Kinda like Bernard Malamud's "The Natural", wasn't it? (The book, not the movie).

That was the second strike he hit. No fault to him there after getting strike one called very low.

On a positive note, Hendriks and Robertson both pitched well. If that can carry forward, it will be very good.

Agreed. No fault. I was merely wishing.

Well, we got some answers to our questions about the bench players tonight. Parmelee's job is to get hit by pitch when down in 0-2 counts for which he's a pinch hitter in unlikely ninth-inning-rallies. And Martroaianni's job is to pinch run and score from second on OF singles, again.... when fighting for the unlikely 9th inning rally. So there we go. I'm satisfied.

Ugh. Too many missed opportunities. We got away with it last night, but you can't get away with it every night.

Hopefully we can still find a way to take the series tomorrow.

Not necessarily. They're only 8-1/2 back. There are 13 weeks left in the season. If they make up 1 game a week they should be OK.

And over that same period, I expect the stock market to double, peace to break out over the earth, and an end to global warming.
